My dog's spay cone is torn. Does she still need it after 10 days?

Lilly's incision looks like it has healed well. From the picture, it appears she had internal sutures to close the incision. To be safe, I'd wait until 14 days have passed since she was spayed, and then take off the Ecollar. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Max should wear the plastic cone and not be bathed/groomed for 10-14 days. I wouldn't take it off at bed time if there is ANY chance he will lick his incision. It is better to be safe than sorry. He will be fine. Good luck

Hi there! I would recommend asking the vet who did his surgery how long you should leave the cone on. For my neuter patients, if absorbable sutures have been used for skin closure, I normally tell clients they can remove the cone after 10-14 days since the incision should be healed by then. Yes the fluid was probably from her being overly active. I would not remove the e-collar until the scab area has healed like the rest of the incision. You can take it off while you are with her and see if she licks it. Then put it back on for a few more days when you’re not able to monitor her. Hi, if you are able to pass two fingers between the bandage and the neck, the bandage is lose enough. If you remove the bandage completely or make it too lose Lily will be able to take the cone off and then she might lick her wound. I would recommend to loosen it slightly f you are unable to pass two fingers between the neck and the bandage. You could change the plastic collar to an inflatable one, I would recommend to do it tomorrow morning so that you have any issues you can always pop Lily into your vet and get help placing the collar back ! She looks quite cheeky and smart ! Hope this helps !

I always recommend having them wear the cone for 12-14 days. It can take this long for skin to heal by scar tissue. I would recommend at least another 5 or 6 days before removing it. Hope that helps.
