Is it safe to use my cat's Hartz flea and tick topical on my dog?

I would not use it on my own cats. It is a harsh product on cats and I have seen a few clients have an intense reaction to it involving seizures and muscle spasms. I would instead use something like the Seresto collar. Best wishes.

No if it is labeled for cats, then it should only be used on cats b/c it has only been tested and deemed safe for cats. I wouldn't recommend using it on Sunny since she weighs less than the dose range. While dogs aren't as sensitive to flea treatment overdose as cats are, the potential is still there to cause toxic symptoms such as muscle twitches and loss of coordination. It's best to strictly follow the weight guidelines to prevent any toxicity from occurring. I would exchange the Frontline for a dose in her weight range.

I occasionally see toxicity issues with some of the over-the-counter topical flea products like Hartz, Sergeant's, etc. - this is more commonly a problem in cats, but can sometimes be an issue with small dogs as well, especially if they've been dosed above their weight range. All of the prescription flea/tick medications currently on the market (Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica, etc.) are quite safe and effective.

No this is absolutely not recommended, first of all you can overdose her, secondly i generally do not recommend flea baths for cats, they are less effective and tend to cause severe side effects. I would recommend using caution if the flea/tick shampoo and the topical product both contain permethrins, particularly if you have a small dog. I recommend avoiding all over the counter products containing permethrins for cats since they are prone to toxicity. If you use a flea/tick shampoo with permethrin and a topical product that has a different active ingredient it should be safer. An even safer alternative would be to use blue Dawn dishsoap for bathing, followed by flea combing and then applying a topical product.
