Why is my bulldog screaming with sudden hip pain and limping?

There are a number of orthopedic and neurological problems that can cause pain and weakness that we see in Bulldogs. I agree that having Winnie examined would be the best idea to make sure we know what we are dealing with and get her treated with an appropriate medication. I would not recommend treating her with any medication at home since they can have side effects and may interact with the pain medication that your vet may want to give her. Unfortunately a vet visit is a must as she will probably need anti inflammatories long term and dogs cannot take human pain killers, if money is an issue please contact a dog charity in your area of living, they should be able to help.

I'm sorry to hear the Scarlett is limping. I would watch her overnight and keep her confined to an area where she cannot jump up and down and so she will rest. Although she isn't crying when you touch her, limping is a sign of pain. If she is still limping in the morning, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian for an exam. It may be something minor that can be treated with rest and pain medication or it could require x-rays to determine the extent of the injury. Please do not give her any over-the-counter human pain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol as these can have serious side effects in animals.

Wow, that is terrible! Unfortunately hip and joint problems are very common in large breed dogs, and it could be that they are suffering from hip dysplasia and/or joint problems such as a tear of their cranial cruciate ligaments. It may just be a terrible coincidence that they both aggravated this conditions around the same time. I recommend resting them for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take they out to toilet on a lead only, and bring they right back in when they are done. If they still appears painful after this time, then I would take them into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. They may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give them any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

It could be her back or hips were painful when she got up, and that's why she squealed, but the pain stopped when she started moving around. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. If she is otherwise normal, then I recommend keeping her very quite. Carry her if you are able or take her outside on a leash. No running, jumping, stairs or playing. Many causes of mild lameness can resolve without treatment. However, if the lameness gets worse, she is not acting normal or the lameness does not resolve, then she needs to see her veterinarian. If it is quite mild pain she is experiencing you could try giving her a supplement of chondroitin and glucosamine. You can get this from good pet shops and it helps to lubricate the joints. If that does not help you may have to go to the vet to get her something stronger such as an antinflammatory. Also make sure she has a well supported bed to take pressure of her when sleeping.
