My dog has hind leg pain and limping. Should I take her to ER?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. If she is otherwise normal, then I recommend keeping her very quite. Carry her if you are able or take her outside on a leash. No running, jumping, stairs or playing. Many causes of mild lameness can resolve without treatment. However, if the lameness gets worse, she is not acting normal or the lameness does not resolve, then she needs to see her veterinarian. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

She may have torn her cruciate ligament, have a problem with her knee cap, have a fracture, etc. Since she seems to be in pain, you should take her to your vet today for an orthopedic examination. Your vet can take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. An anti-inflammatory and pain medications can be prescribed to help relieve any pain. I'm sorry to hear the Scarlett is limping. I would watch her overnight and keep her confined to an area where she cannot jump up and down and so she will rest. Although she isn't crying when you touch her, limping is a sign of pain. If she is still limping in the morning, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian for an exam. It may be something minor that can be treated with rest and pain medication or it could require x-rays to determine the extent of the injury. Please do not give her any over-the-counter human pain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol as these can have serious side effects in animals.

Hi. Unless the pain medication was prescribed for her, do not give her anything, the human medications or over the counter medications aren't always safe and don't have same doses for dogs then people. If her pain level is that bad, I'd go to ER to get pain meds

Poor Grace. It may be she injured her hip in the crate. I'm concerned about the screaming when you move or touch the leg. Unfortunately there are no pain relievers you can give her at home. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take her into a vet now to get treated.

If Eleanor is limping she is in some degree of pain. I would definitely think out going to your veterinarian because clumsy puppies are prone to breaking bones. She may just have a soft tissue injury but it's always better to err on the side of caution. Tonight, do not touch her leg anymore, and don't try to put it into extension as that will cause her more pain. Rest her tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. In the morning, take her into the vet if she's still limping. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe.
