My bulldog's nose is dry despite drinking water. What can I do?

In your picture it looks like Theo might have mild nasal hyperkeratosis. Unfortunately there is no oral medication that I am aware of that would help this condition. I often recommend a fatty acid supplement for skin issues, and I think you could try one although it might not make much of a difference. There are some autoimmune diseases that can also cause a very dry, crusty sometimes ulcerated nose so if your veterinarian has not examined Theo for this problem I would recommend making an appointment. This is a previous misconception that dry noses are unhealthy due to previously high incidences of Distemper. However, a dry nose is not of concern, and does not mean that Bruno is sick! As long as Bruno is acting normally - eating/drinking/urinating/defecating normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

That is perfectly normal. The sayings about a dog's nose are old wives tales. They will have wet noses after drinking or licking their nose and dry the rest of the time. You only need to be concerned if the nose seems excessively dry, cracked or painful.

A dry or wet nose means nothing. Throughout the day his nose may go through periods or dry and wet. Monitor for discharge, lethargy or difficulty breathing. If he is eating, drinking and acting normally then he is likely fine.

Hi. I am sorry to hear that biggie Paws is having trouble breathing. Unfortunately breathing issues can become an emergency very quickly. Bulldogs do tend to have trouble breathing due to their synotic nares an elongated soft palate. In addition, if they are overweight that contributes even further to breathing problems. If he is actually struggling to breathe, I would recommend you take him to the ER rather than waiting until Monday. He may have an upper respiratory infection, a heart condition, or the respiratory issues that this breed has have become extreme for him. The ER veterinarian will do an examination, and probably some chest x-rays to see if there is any heart condition or primary lung issue. That will help lead us to the correct diagnosis and treatment. There are surgical interventions for the stenitic nares an elongated soft palate that this breed has. That may be in his future if that is what the cause is for his breathing at this time.
