Why is my Boxer suddenly limping on front leg and won't shake head?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Oh poor Angel! She sounds very painful. Neck or back pain does really hurt when the dog moves. The lump just may be a muscle or an illusion on how she is holding her head due tot he pain. I treat neck pain with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medictions. The dog needs to be strictly rested for several weeks, this means no running, jumping, playing with other dogs and leash walks only. Angle should be seen by your Vet for an exam and medications. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Lennox isn’t feeling well. I would recommend taking him in to a vet first. You don’t have to do a lot of diagnostics first if you want. They can prescribe a safe medication to give him that may help him recover. I would not give anything over the counter as most human medications are toxic to pets. I also wouldn’t wrap it because you could cause more damage. I would recommend rest for at least a week as well (no running, jumping, playing, or stairs). Good luck and kisses to Lennox!

Causes of a front leg lameness could be: arthritis, a strain or sprain that needs more time, Lyme disease, neck injury and pinched nerve, peripheral nerve sheath tumor, bone tumor, bursitis/tendinitis. I think having Mya examined is a good idea since it’s been waxing and waning for a few months. Your Vet may want to check her for Lyme or take X-rays. She may just need a few weeks of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and rest. I hope this helps and I wish Mya a speedy recovery!

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Jeter's care today! Lameness or pain or an abnormal hair can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. In some cases this is actually a nervous system abnormality. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Since Hazel's shooting accident was so long ago, I wouldn't expect her current limp to be directly related to that injury. I suspect this is something new. It's difficult to say if the lump is the cause of her limping, but it's certainly possible. The lump could be related to an abscess (infection) secondary to a wound, or could be either a benign or malignant growth. It would be best to have Hazel seen by a veterinarian to determine the cause of her limp and the source of that lump on her shoulder. If it's an infection, she will need to go on antibiotics and the lump may need to be drained. If it's a cancerous growth, your vet can discuss the procedure and cost associated with having it removed. Regardless, this is not likely to be a problem that will resolve on its own so it's best to have Hazel seen by a vet. Hope this helps.
