My dog slipped, has neck pain, a lump, and won't move. Is it serious?

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this with Angel. One possibility for what you are describing is a bulging disc in the neck. If it occurs in the lower part of the neck, it can affect the nerves going to the front leg and cause lameness. I would recommend having your vet evaluate her and see if they can find any neck pain. If they do, they will be able to give her appropriate medications to make her feel better. In the meantime, I would recommend keeping her quiet, so she doesn't flare it up any more. Good luck! This type of injury where you have vocalization, limping, and swelling definitely needs to be looked at by your veterinarian. A thorough physical exam of the area and potentially radiographs of the bones are needed here to provide the care that Stormy needs after an injury to this degree. I would highly recommend taking him in to be seen as soon as you can. You are not going to be able to care for an injury like this at home. For tonight, its best to just keep Stormy quiet in an isolated room without any other pets to disturb him and apply a cold compress to the swollen area, if tolerated, for about 3-5 mins. This can be the result of a bulging intervertebral disc in his neck, which is a neurological problem. This can be serious problem as dogs can become very painful and sometimes paralyzed if the disc ruptures. I recommend a veterinary exam and medication to reduce the neck inflammation and they will also probably give muscle relaxers to improve the head and neck movement. They may also recommend X-rays. In the meantime you should not use a collar as pulling on the neck may make this worse. I recommend using a harness for walks. Placing a hot compress on the neck and giving Plato a gentle neck and shoulder massage may reduce the muscle spasms and improve the head and neck movement. Please make an appointment to have Tammh seen by a vet as soon as possible. She is likely in pain, and may have a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, a mass, or a foreign body in the leg. Your vet can assess the leg during the physical exam and may recommend x-rays to help determine the cause of Tammh’s limp. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Tammh without consulting with your vet.

I recommend to have her examined today. A painful lump is very concerning for an infection or even something like a fracture. Teddy is also likely in pain and that's why she is acting this way. Although bumps on the back could be cysts or related to infection, I am more concerned that Lilly is yelping related to something else that it painful. It could certainly be neck pain from an old injury or possibly lumbar disc pain. Back and neck issues can cause referred pain which means that other areas of the body can experience pain even when it is the back or neck with the primary issue. I recommend you have Lilly examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible to determine if the lumps are the primary concern or if neck or back pain is the cause of what you are seeing.
