Bleeding growth on my 6-month-old puppy's paw? What could it be?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. There is a couple of types of skin growths in dogs that are basically tumors filed with blood. One is a hemangioma, and that type is benign (meaning it doesn't spread to the rest of the body); the other is a hemangiosarcoma, and these are malignant. There is no way to tell the difference between the two; the mass must be removed surgically and then tested with a biopsy. The other possibility is that your dog sustained some type of trauma to the foot that is causing the lesion and the bleeding. I would get this checked out right away, especially because of the possibility that it could be cancerous, so that you can get it removed and deal with it once and for all.

Poor girl. Yes I would recommend taking her to the vet for this bleeding mass. Often times masses on young dogs are histiocytomas (benign tumors) and can spontaneously regress within 2-4 weeks. However getting this cleaned properly and a short course of anti-inflammatory medication, antibiotics and a temporary bandage are likely needed to help manage this wound in the meantime. Judging from the mass and the fact that Gunner is a young dog, I would suspect that this is what we call a histiocytoma. These typically resolve on their own but can be surgically removed to help speed up the resolution of the mass. If it is continuing to grow and if it bothers him, I would recommend having this removed surgically and then send it out for further testing to make sure this is not a cancerous mass. Any lumps/bumps that you notice on your dog should be checked out by your vet. Lumps can be any of these things: * abscess (infection) * cyst * cancer (benign or malignant) * wart There is no way I can tell you for sure what it is just based on your description or by looking at a photo but I have a suspicion that this may be a histiocytoma (benign tumor).
