What's the best diet for my 6-month-old Tibetan Mastiff puppy?

Commercial diet are balanced and offer all the nutrients Bruno needs. He is a large breed so continue to offer him puppy food until he is fully grown. If possible, do not mix honey or jam as an excess of sugar intake can be detrimental for his health. I would recommend diet formulated by Hill's or Royal Canin. Giant breed puppies need to eat at least a large breed, high quality puppy food to ensure slow and consistent growth. This will help to avoid developmental, skeletal abnormalities. Purina Pro Plan or Science Diet both make great formulas. Royal Canin goes one step further and makes a diet specific for giant breed puppies that is specific for the age of the puppy (the needs change as they grow). I do not recommend Orijen at all. It's grain free, and grain free food is a dangerous fad in dogs. Vets are seeing an increase in dogs developing dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs fed grain free food, and the FDA is investigating that link. Grains are good for dogs, and there is absolutely no scientific proof or any study that has proven grains are bad for dogs. I would feed Willow a brand like Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Feed according to their instructions, and make sure it's a puppy food. Best of luck,

As a half-Mastiff, Ruby is likely going to be a pretty large dog, so I do recommend feeding her a large breed puppy food for the first year of life. Every food is formulated differently with respect to the density of calories in kibble. For this reason, follow the chart on the bag of food to match Ruby's age and weight, as this will provide the amount of food that she should have in a given day. You can then divide that amount into 3 meals as you are currently doing. I typically recommend feeding Science Diet, Purina ProPlan or Royal Canin diets, as these are high quality foods formulated by veterinary nutritionists and backed with clinical trials. If you choose to change Ruby's diet (now or at any point in her life), be sure to do so gradually by mixing her old and new foods together over 5-7 days. Saint bernards, as will all large and especially giant breed puppies have very specific nutritional needs as they are growing and developing and a well formulated diet can help to minimise the risk of developing growth and joint issues such as hip dysplasia - I would recommend royal canin giant range up to 18-24months of age, feeding strictly to maintain a healthy body condition score (lean but with adequate muscle development) in order to optimise healthy growth. A cheaper alternative would be a greyhound puppy food but this is not as specific for giant breeds. A saint bernard is not an 'economy' breed of dog and remember that all routine treatments, insurance policies and medical/surgical care are going to be significantly greater than a medium sized dog throughout their life

I would recommend using a large breed puppy food. This type of diet will have the specific balance of minerals and vitamins needed for young, growing puppies. Since Danes are a giant breed, their nutrional needs are different than your typical puppy. Some of the brands I usually recommend include Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, and Iams.
