What vaccinations and food should my 5-week-old beagle puppy get?

At 5 weeks of age it is normal for Dexter to sleep most of the day and only be active 2-3 hours of the day. Most puppies aren’t weaned from their mom’s until 8 weeks of age. First vaccines aren’t given until 6-8 weeks of age so you are right in scheduling your vet appointment for next week unless he starts to have diarrhea before then. Definitely feed him 3 times a day or leave dry food out for him all day to prevent hypoglycemia /low blood sugar which is common in puppies and can result in severe weakness and even seizures. Yes, you can give him a vaccine at 6 weeks old but he will still 3 additional boosters of the same vaccine at 3-4 week intervals. We do not use cerelac or nan pro stage in the U.S. so it is hard for me to comment on that diet. I suggest you use Royal Canin Starter. I recommend a good quality food like Hills puppy food for large breed dogs. That has all the nutrition he needs without giving him too much nutrients which can make him fat and cause bone problems from growing too fast. I don’t feed dogs wet food, it’s not necessary. You can moisten the dry for a week or two until he can chew it well. Personally I do not let puppies be around other unvaccinated dogs until they have completed their series of vaccinations at fourteen weeks. Coco isn't old enough for her first shots until she is at least 6 weeks of age. She needs a puppy formulated food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams.

Any food that says "puppy" should be just fine. You can continue to feed wet, or you can use dry. If she prefers moist food, you could even add a little water to the dry food. All puppies that aren't large breeds can use the normal puppy food. Large breeds need different mineral percentages for their extra large bones. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Rio is super cute, congrats! I recommend Hill's, Royal Canin, Purina or Iams. I would call your local Petco to see what they offer. Here is what needs to happen: bring a stool sample and any records you were given to your first Vet visit, Rio will get his next DHPP vaccine 3-4 weeks after his first one was given by the breeder. If the breeder did not start his vaccines he needs to start them by 7-8 weeks of age. Petco will start them for you and tell you when you need to return. They get about 3-4 DHPP vaccines 3-4 weeks apart. The Rabies vaccine is given around 4 months of age, depending on the laws in your county. I hope this helps and I wish you and Rio the best!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 5 weeks is a bit young to leave her mother but if she is fully weaned it should be ok. We usually do not start vaccines until they are 7 weeks of age. Some breeders will give them a parvo vaccine at under 7 weeks. You should be fine until she gets her first vaccine but people with sick dogs or unvaccinated dogs shouldn't handle her and she needs to be kept away from all dogs. I hope this helps and good luck!
