Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to recommend using a prescription drug without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. Lorazapam is an anti-anxiety drug, and it may not be appropriate for Huey in this case. It sounds like he is really struggling, and I would recommend giving your vet a call now to describe his symptoms and they can discuss a medication that may be helpful for him. Poor girl. Yes anxiety medication can be given and prescribed by your vet. There are no options for this over the counter. I would try Trazodone, which is an anti-anxiety medication that works quickly to calm pets for stressful events like this. Ask your vet if she can be given this, especially if they have seen her recently, prior to her being seen for humane euthanasia. I send all my best and I am sorry that your pet is reaching end of life terms, but it sounds like you are making the best decision for her considering her poor quality of life. I am so sorry you are having to go through this with little Chili. Neurologic disease in elderly pets can be difficult to treat, understand, and very hard to watch, just like with people. It sounds like her seizures are well-controlled with the Keppra, but she is displaying additional neurological symptoms: pacing, circling, confusion. I am not entirely convinced these are all due to anxiety though. Usually neurologic disease in elderly dogs is due to only a few things: metabolic disease (liver, kidney, or diabetic issues), vascular events (strokes), or a brain tumor. If you have ruled out metabolic disease, which I'm sure your vet has, the other two diagnoses carry a very guarded prognosis. My concern is that the symptoms you are seeing are likely the result of progressive disease due to one of those two possible causes. While anxiety medication might help some, I fear that it's not going to give you or Chili the results for which you're hoping. In this case, it's important to think about quality of life for Chili: what's fair to her? If adding in an anti-anxiety medication helps her resume normal activities where she goes back to being Chili and doing the things that make her "Chili," fantastic. If not, it may be time to make some difficult decisions about what's best for her. If you do decide to pursue an anti-anxiety medication, your vet might consider Selegiline (specifically for cognitive dysfunction in people, not a lot of reported success in animals), Clonazepam (in the valium and Xanax family, but slightly different), or Clonidine (a blood pressure medication, also used to treat anxiety) in combination with an anti-depressant, such as Prozac. All of these would require careful monitoring and consideration in combination with the Keppra. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you and Chili!

It is really hard to tell exactly what you are asking. Did Bruno swallow one pill of 0.5mg Lonazep (lorazepam)? If so, one tablet will not harm him. This is a benzodiazepine drug and dogs often take medications in this class of drug for anxiety and sedative effects. It can also be given for seizure activity. Dogs however, take a much higher dose than a person so that low dose will not harm him. The only thing you may notice is a bit of sleepiness but I doubt it. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am very sorry about Pancho! Going suddenly blind can be very hard on anyone. Pancho likely has his days and nights confused. Dogs memorize where the furniture is in the house. You have to be very careful going forward to not move things around in your house very much. I can provide suggestions of things for you to discuss with your Vet for Pancho but we can not prescribe drugs or doses. I would discuss melatonin with your Vet to give 30 mins before bedtime. If that doesn't work then I would try it combined with Alprazolam or trazadone or acepromazine. During the day you need to work with Pancho to guide him around the house and help him memorize where things are. Practice having him lay where you want him to sleep at night and consider confining him there (your bedroom or a crate or a laundry room) to prevent injury until he acclimates to the sudden loss of his sight. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Athena. I am sorry to hear of all of her recent anxiety. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian to try to if she is experiencing residual anxiety from a noise phobia (fireworks,thunderstorms, etc) or if she is experiencing age related changes known as canine cognitive dysfunction. Depending on the cause or if it is a combination of the two, she may be prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. Hopefully then you can all get some sleep. I hope this information helps!
