Why is my adopted senior dog not playing, pooping inside, or mean to cat?

The adjustment may be a little difficult for her, especially because she likely did not have any positive human interactions or toys available. Wilma may also have a more "quiet" personality. You may want to consider enrolling her in a training class where she can interact with other dogs and with you in a controlled, positive environment. Thank you for submitting your question. I recommend that your parent's dog is seen by a veterinarian. It is always a good idea to have an exam when a new pet is brought home. Hopefully this is just an adjustment period for her, but it is important to determine if she is ill or not. If she is healthy, then maybe playdates with your dog with help her to settle into her new home. I hope this information helps!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes eating and drinking behavior can change due to underlying dental disease or another health issue. I would recommend Maggie get checked out with her veterinarian soon. Your veterinarian will do an exam along with a oral exam and may recommend blood work and/or a dental cleaning. If all is normal, then perhaps Maggie may be particular with her food. I would choose a good quality food for her such as Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Solid Gold, Royal Canin, Hill's, Acana, or Orijen just to name a few. Try not to change the food frequently as this may encourage her to be finicky. She will eat when she's hungry enough! But first, I would be sure to have her seen by her vet just to make sure there is nothing else going on that may cause eating/drinking changes. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

At this point o would not be too worried about no bowel movement as long as she is eating, drinking and behaving normally. she may have a few accidents as she works on becoming acclimated to her new home but remain consistent and use positive reinforcement and she should adjust quickly.

Loss of appetite and decreased energy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rocco evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Hello! If often takes some time for a pet to adjust to their brand new home and family. Most dogs need a few weeks to become confident and comfortable in their new environment. It would be helpful to know exactly what she is doing that is causing you to be concerned though.
