Is 25mg tramadol too high for my 10lb dog's pancreatitis pain?

Tramadol and gabapentin are safe to give together. Tramadol comes in 50 mg tablets. The upper limit of the dosing range for a 78 pound dog is 150 mg. However, I rarely start with the high dose. I usually start with 50 mg every 8 hours and then increase to 100 mg if you feel it’s needed. Best of luck and I hope you find the reason tomorrow! I hope he improves quickly. Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition so pain relief, fluids and antinausea medications are vital, oral medication is ok if vomiting can be controlled, if nit injectable and intravenous treatment is required. An ultra low fat diet is very important long term to reduce the severity and long term complications and scarring

Buprenorphine often causes sedation as a side effect - sometimes a lot of sedation, as sounds like the case with Lady! The dose she received (0.3 mg for a 25 pound dog) is within the normal dosage range, and should not be expected to cause any serious problems at all :) The sedation should wear off in the next 6-8 hours, or possibly even sooner as the drug levels in her body start to drop. Buprenorphine has no negative impact on the pancreas at all, and is very commonly used for pain control in dogs with pancreatitis. I hope Lady starts to feel better soon!

Pmcreatitis is very painful, so the shaking could be interpreted as an expression of pain. Unfortunately Tramadol does not work very well for pain, not as good as in people. The Cerenia works a lot better for visceral pain. Being lethargic is also normal with pancreatitis. Under normal circumstances we hospitalize dogs with pancreatitis, however this is not always possible depending on the area where you live and whether such facilities are available. If Bombon deteriorates or gets much worse you will need to take her to a vet before Monday, or a Pet ER.

No this is not safe to do at all. The medication isn't prescribed for Buddy and it may not be the correct dose. Plus aspirin is never safe to give dogs, it causes GI bleeding and ulcers. I would get him into his vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

The dose for clindamycin is within the normal dose range, and the dose for tramadol is also within the normal dose range. You can ask your vet why they upped the doses for Chewy, but they are safe. I hope this helps.
