How much food can a 14 lb dog's stomach comfortably hold at one time?

The stomach shrinks and engorges according to whether or not it is full. When its not full it holds very little but will expand as they eat and drink. It diesnt really matter as they know themselves when to stop drinking milk.

If that’s already been taken care of, then yes, I agree she looks a bit full. Some puppies will eat everything you give them, even if it’s more than they really need. Beagles are a breed that are known for this. As such, I’d say just decrease your amount. Aim for the middle of that recommendation- about 145gm per day or about 45-50 gm per feeding. If that is still too much for her, drop to about 35 Gm per feeding. If she is not gaining weight or is looking too thin on these smaller amounts, your vet will likely just recommend feeding the small amount 4 times daily instead of 3 times daily. If the belly is swollen but the puppy is not in discomfort, you may monitor her for a few hours to see how she goes. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely normal but I would feed less formula at each feeding and increase the frequency or number of feedings. That way he is getting smaller amounts and his stomach won't get so distended. Be sure to contact your Vet for a deworming protocol soon. I also suggest weaning bottle fed puppies sooner due to the constipation or diarrhea affects of formula. Have a good day!

Hi, just make sure she is drinking little and often and starve her over the next 6-12 hours according to how much food she has eaten. You can also take her for short walks on the lead to aid transit if she is up to it, but I would not leave to walk off off the lead. Hope this helps !

As long as your dog is having normal bowel movements, normal energy levels, no vomiting, and normal appetite I would not be concerned. The dog stomach does lie at the cranial/front end of the abdomen, so feeling a firmness could just be his full stomach that is working to digest food. That's a lot of food for a 3 month old. I'd be inclined to cut the total amount down to 2 - 2.5 cups per day, given in 3 feedings. Also be sure Stella has been appropriately dewormed, as that can cause a big belly, too.
