How many water bowls for two cats in a two-story home, and where?

The food bowl should be in a separate room than the litter bowl, i recommend putting one water bowl in the same room as the food but not one beside the other, i also recommend having an additional water bowl in a different room. Beds and scratching posts according to the space you have in your home.

As long as they get along, there is no reason that you need to have multiple necessarily. If you start to note that they are competing or one is getting significantly more food than the other, adding a second bowl would be in their best interest. Hope this makes sense.

It sounds like you are doing an amazing job! If she is eating canned food well, you can also add some water to her canned food to help her take in more water. Her daily maintenance amount of water should be around 2 ounces or 1/4 cup at minimum. If it is really hot she may want more. Also make sure you have a fresh bowl of water out for her - they usually will drink want they want. Just keep in mind she is getting water from her canned food so she may not drinking as much as you think she should. I hope this helps!

You have nothing to worry about, my cats are exactly the same, they will prefer every other option that seems to be fresher than their bowls, i tried a fountain bowl for a while but it never really replaced their need to drink from wherever they could.

It's great that you want to be prepared for your new kitten! Aside from the obvious things for the kitten like food and water bowls, I'd recommend a tall scratching post and perch. The close up vision of cats is much weaker than their long distance vision and so, when they are right at their water dish, they can’t see the water level. In order to check where the water starts – or if there is even any water in the dish – they will move it to cause the water to ripple and splash. Once they are satisfied they know where the water is, then they will commence their drinking. That is my best guess. If you are not happy with this change in behavior you could always get her a drinking fountain to drink from. Most cats prefer to drink from running water so this may help. Noushmc should have water an unlimited amount of water available throughout the day. Refill the bowl at least once a day, or whenever it's about half full and wash bowl with soap weekly. A bowl that can hold about a cup of water is perfect. For food, offer her a small amount of canned or dry kitten food 3 to 4 times a day. The amount depends on the type of food, and instructions for amount should be on the bag. If the bag says to feed 1/2 cup, and you're feeding 4 times a day, she'll need 1/8 cup at each meal.
