My unspayed cat is losing weight. Could it be her heat cycles?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 9 months old

I have noticed that my has lost some weight. I took her to the vet and after doing all her check up the vet said that she's completely fine. She eats perfectly fine and finishes her food much quickly. But i wanted to ask that since my cat isn't spayed and she comes to heat after every week so can it be the reason? Does a cat looses weight while she's on heat? I am thinking to get her spayed/neutered because what i think is that she looses her weight while she's on heat. Need an advice !!

Yes, indeed a cat that is not spayed and has to spend a lot of energy by going through heat will lose weight. If you do not intend to breed her, you should have her spayed, especially since cats will stay in heat until they get bred. She will be happier when she does not have to go through constant heat.

It's not unhealthy for Audrey, cats can cycle quickly but it does slow down during the winter. It is concerning, however, that she eats less during this time and has lost weight. Hopefully she will be out of heat by the time of her surgery, but she can still be spayed even if she is in heat. You are doing the right thing by having her spayed. Best of luck.

She could have a number of things causing these symptoms including an underlying heart condiiton, pyometra (spontaneous infected uterus, only seen in cats that are not spayed), or even a viral infection. I recommend to have Cike examined by her veterinarian. Hair loss and weight loss could indicate a hormonal imbalance, parasites or poor nutrition. The doctor may be able to figure out the cause was some basic testing and a physical exam. Once the cause is appropriately diagnosed, the correct treatment can begin. It’s not normal for a pet to lose weight after being spayed. In fact most cats have a weight gaining problem after they get altered. I would recommend having her examined by your vet and also to have her stool checked for parasites. Most weight loss is due to an intestinal worm in pets this young. Some cats can develop a uterine infection after their heat cycle. it is recommended to take her to the vet in order check for an infection. in most cases it's recommended to spay her if this is indeed the cause. if she isn't eating at all since her cycle started it's very bad, a cat usually starts developing fatty liver if he stops eating for more than 3 days strait.

Why is my unneutered cat roaming, vocalizing, and losing weight?

If he is not neutered then I would be suspicious that there is an in heat female somewhere that he is spending time and energy trying to get to. However, there are certainly other possibilities. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure there isn’t something medically concerning going on, and then potentially consider having him neutered. I am sorry to hear that Gary is not feeling well. While being intact can make them have behavioral changes and actively seek out a mate, this shouldn't cause him to not eat or lose weight. I would definitely recommend taking him to veterinarian for an examination. It is possible that he is painful somewhere or has problems with his urinary tract that makes him painful and causes him to urinate where he shouldn't.
