Unspayed cat bleeding bright red during heat. Is it an emergency?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 9 lbs

My female cat is a little over 2 years old, he is not spayed. She is currently in heat and when i came home one day she was in the living room and there was a decent sized bright red puddle on the ground. Is she going to be okay? Is it just because she is in heat or is this an emergency. She does this randomly when she’s in heat in random places around the house. She drinks plenty of water and uses the bathroom normal. No changes in behavior other than that she’s in heat.

This is probably not because she is in heat (cats usually do not bleed during their period), this looks like a severe urinary infection/bladder inflammation. you need to take her to the vet in order to get it treated ASAP.
