My male cat has a rash on his testicles. How can I treat it?

Although rare in male cats, mammary tumors can occur. If you would like to try therapy at home first, I would recommend using spray such as malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area twice daily until resolved. If there is no improvement or the area worsens I would have a veterinarian examine this for further treatment recommendations. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be fleas, infection or mites.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation.

 If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy.

 Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). If this is a superficial rash, you can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Without seeing him in person, I cannot make a definitive diagnosis. You cannot treat this at home, and you need to take him into a vet today get this treated. Best of luck.

Hello, and thank you for the detailed photos. It appears to be a bald spot with some scaling. Possible reasons include a mild bacterial infection, fungal infection, mites, or allergies. I would suggest taking Rusti to the vet where they can perform a skin scraping and cytology test to check for some of the above. If there is no sign of infection, they may prescribe some medication to help reduce inflammation and itchiness in the skin, in case of allergies. In the meantime, if he is scratching at the area, you can place an e-collar (cone) over his head to help prevent further trauma. I hope this helps, and that Rusti is feeling better soon!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Based on its appearance, that resembles a hot spot, or a moist-dermatitis brought about by licking. If it is at the base of the tail, this is a common place for cats to have a flea allergy/infection. I recommend having Baloo seen by a veterinarian who can perform a skin scrape test/cytology to see if there is evidence of secondary bacterial infection and/or other types of external parasites, such as fleas or mites. Baloo will need to wear an Elizabethan collar so that he does not continue to lick at this area and cause further trauma. He will also need to be on monthly topical flea and tick preventatives, purchased from your veterinarian. Flea and tick products that are available in food and pet stores are NOT effective OR safe for use on cats or dogs. I hope this is helpful!

It looks like some form of trauma or infected wound. You can try and clean it twice a day with 4% chlorhexidine solution (available at pharmacies). However, if the testicle is swollen or is painful to Batman, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.
