How can I tell if my adopted or new pet has been vaccinated already?

You can determine disease resistance with antibody titers and this can give you an idea of potential vaccines but you can't determine dates or vaccine exposure vs natural exposure. Your best option is to try to learn where Woody received his vaccines. You may be able to get a copy from that clinic. Otherwise, repeating the vaccines will not hurt Woody. Has Woody ever had vaccinations? If you do not know of any vaccinations and have no history I would restart the vaccination series. In most cases, you'll need owner permission in order for records to be transferred over, so while you can contact the vet, you may not be able to obtain full records. That said, they may at least be able to confirm neuter/vaccine status for you so you can let your vet know. If you can't get any records, you can also have your current vet perform a titer test to see where Wooly's immunity levels are, and then booster vaccines from there.

Titers tests measure the body's level of immune system proteins, what is called antibodies. It does not mean your puppy still cannot get the disease, and they should not be used in place of vaccines. That's because there is no way to predict antibody levels three or six months down the line. These levels can change due to any number of factors including stress, disease, and medication, so these levels may not be consistent over time. Titer tests should not take the place of the recommended vaccine protocol, and I would have your puppy vaccinated for parvo as well as other deadly diseases like rabies and distemper. Since he is six years old an presumably has been kept current on his vaccinations he should have plenty of built-in immunity to tide him over. It is possible to have a titer blood test done to see if he even needs to have a booster, but the drawback to this is that the blood test sometimes costs more than simply doing the vaccinations and it does no harm to give the vaccination.

I would recommend getting his vaccinations redone if there is no proof. It will not harm him and this will ensure he is fully protected. It is just too risky to assume he is protected with no proof. He will need the DHLPP and Bordetella. He will then need 1 booster done in 3 weeks and that will fully protect him for a year. I hope that your newly adopted pet Tanner does well moving forward. If you can find out where Candle was adopted from, you could contact the shelter and they should have records of when Candle was vaccinated. Otherwise I suggest you take her to your vet and discuss this with him. He may be able to find out also, or will recommend a vaccination schedule that will fit with Candles condition and age.
