Found a stray kitten with a weird lump on its belly. What should I do?

You need to take the kitten into a vet immediately, this is a medical emergency. It looks like a herniation of the intestines, which cannot be treated at home. Please take her, your cat, and the other babies into a vet now

This blob like thing may actually be a penis if it's located on the belly right in-between the hind legs, and Lisa could be a boy. It could also be an umbilical hernia (but that would be a little further up the belly), or it could be a cyst or an abscess. It should be checked out by a vet, so if you don't have the money for a check up, I would recommend giving her to the SPCA who can get her checked out by a vet, and get the medical treatments she needs (flea treatment, vaccines, deworming medication, etc). They can then find her a home.

This could be an umbilical hernia, or an infection of the umbilicus (belly button). I'd recommend having this kitten examined by your vet to see if any treatment is needed. If it is a hernia repair might be recommended when the kitten is older.

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include umbilical hernia, skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors (very unlikely given the age). It looks painful and infectied. It may be a tumor or cyst or even an old wound that is an abscess and starting to open and drain. Clean with with warm soap and water then applly a warm compress to help the swelling. Make sure she stays confined so you can watch the area. If it ruptures and drains, it will actually be not as painful but just gently wipe the area if this happens. She does need to see a vet for antibiotics though.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the swelling is at the belly button, is soft and non-painful it is likely an umbilical hernia. The herniation is usually fat through the body wall. Sometimes they can be pushed in (but come back out) or are permanently out. We usually fix them easily when they are spayed. Hello. Without knowing what might be wrong with the kitten it is almost impossible to make any recommendations. I know your heart is in the right place, but if you can not care for the kitten, it really is the kindest thing to try & find someone who can care for & treat the kitten properly. It sounds like there may be some fairly significant things happening with the kitten, & things can get expensive quickly.
