My new stray cat has watery poop. Should I be concerned about his health?

Given that he has been on the streets, he likely has intestinal worms, and will need a deworming treatment. I would have him seen by a vet first thing tomorrow for a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis. It may also be advisable to test him for FIV and FeLV since he's been out on the streets. The vaccines he needs includes FVRCP and rabies. He will also need flea treatments and heartworm treatment, and he should be tested for heartworms before getting the heartworm treatment.

This actually seems to be more related to diarrhea. You can try to feed some bland food like boiled chicken and add probiotics to the food (can find this at the pet store). Make sure he has plenty of clean water available. If you notice that he loses weight and/or condition, then it would be best to take him to a veterinarian, or local shelter for treatment. It sounds like your kitty may have intestinal parasites causing his diarrhea. I would get his poop tested through your vet first to determine what kind of parasite is present so that this is treated for appropriately. You can also try a general dewormer from your local petstore if you just want to try something before having to make an appt. I do hope that your fur baby Whisket's stools return to normal soon! Hello. Thank you for rescuing this kitten. I would be most concerned about this kitten having an infection & most certainly having a large number of parasites it its gut. Roundworms are especially common in kittens & can cause significant discomfort & diarrhea. It would be best to have the kitten seen as soon as possible as she may need some medical treatment to get her going on the right track. Stray cats can pretty nasty parasitic infections. I would check to see if the vet ran a fecal examination + a Giardia test. Both of these can pick up on many parasites that can cause persistent diarrhea. However, if these tests were already done and were negative, then additional testing may be needed to find other not so common causes of diarrhea like the one ran by Idexx. I would suggest going back to the vet for additional treatment and these additional tests if not done already.

Antibiotics, diet change, and a new home causing stress can all cause loose stools, so it could be a combination of these things causing it, however I would schedule Gizmo's checkup anyway since that's always a good idea to do with any new pet, especially one that is already currently on medications. Your vet can rule out any other health issues, deworm in case of parasites, and help you get started on a vaccination plan or treatment plan for any other underlying issues.

Vaccines can give a kitten diarrhea for a day or two afterwards, and it's a good since that he is otherwise acting normal. It could also be that he has intestinal worms, and I would make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments. Panacur is a brand I recommend to give to kittens, it's a three day course of treatment you can get OTC from a pet store or your vet's office. You would have to give Henry a second course of the treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old, and then every three months thereafter. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments and the diarrhea doesn't clear up in 48 hours, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. You can try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps as well. If it does help, continue the bland diet for a couple of days, and then start slowly adding back in his normal diet. I hope this helps!
