Stray cat has infected head wound with pus. Can I treat it at home?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male

There is outside kitty on one of the streets I walk by, I have heard he roams around and may have an owner. He also could just be a community feed outside cat. But he has a nasty infected cut on his head that seems to have yellow/greenish pus coming out of it. He keeps scratching at it. He comes to me when I call- is there anything locally I can put on it? Keep in mind I’m sure he wouldn’t let me flush it out like I’m sure I am supposed to but is there a cream I can put on it to help it heal?

Unfortunately no, there isn't a cream you can put on it to heal. He has to see a vet for systemic antibiotics to treat it. Since he's an outdoor kitty who roams, he can be given a long acting antibiotic shot so he doesn't need to receive medication on a daily basis. Please trap him and bring him into a vet today.
