My kitten bites. How do I stop this and prevent future biting?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 months and 19 days old | 1.6 lbs

How do you stop a kitten from biting to prevent cat biting in the future? I've tried pushing him away, I've tried being still and Ive tried giving him his toys instead.

It sounds like you are on the right track, persistence is key with puppies and kittens when they are play biting. I have linked two articles with great advice on this issue below:

try interacting with your kitten using toys that are longer so they can't reach your hand. If your kitten does start attacking/biting your hand then give a sharp/quick "no" and walk away, removing yourself completely. This way the kitten realizes that biting leads to no interaction with you. It can take a good deal of time and persistence but it will pay off in the end.
