Why is my Sphynx cat's urine sweet, dark, and she drinks more?

Hello there. It is very possible that Persephone Jane has diabetes. However there are many other reasons for increased thirst in a cat, including kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, or urinary tract infection. I recommend taking her to the veterinarian where she can have bloodwork to determine if she is diabetic or not. Once the cause of her excess thirst is discovered, your veterinarian can develop a treatment plan to help your kitty. Hope this helps!

Hello! I'm afraid it sounds like Kit T Kat may have diabetes, but unfortunately there is no home remedy for this! She needs to have some bloodwork done, and, if she has diabetes, may need to be on insulin. Sorry to hear about this! Hope you are able to take her in.

Increased drinking in cats with a urine that has a strong odor is concerning for a couple possible medical issues, such as diabetes, a urinary tract infection, a kidney issue, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having Missy be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if she has an underlying condition that needs to be addressed, have any diagnostic testing done (urinalysis, bloodwork, etc) and a treatment plan made if needed. An unusually sweet or fruity smell coming from your cat can be indicative of diabetes. I highly recommend that you have your cat examined by his/her veterinarian ASAP. With proper treatment, diabetes is a managable disease in cats.

Any cat that is urinating more is probably drinking more water. Both of those things (and the strong smell) can be caused by diabetes or kidney disease. I suggest you have Felix to the vet for an exam, some blood testing and a urine test.

Older cats have a tendency to have problems with their kidneys as they get older. This can result in their kidneys not concentrating their urine as well, so it is more dilute and has less (or no) odor to it. Kidney disease can cause a number of problems, so I would recommend having your veterinarian evaluate Lilly and check a urine sample and blood work. Having more dilute urine can also predispose older cats to urinary tract infections, that will will be important to check for as well. If you have one available in your area, you might consider having a house call vet come to the house if Lilly does not do well going to the vet. Poor Gabby! If she seems like she's feeling unwell, is having frequent accidents, or you suspect an issue it would be best to bring her in for a checkup to your local vet. Bringing in a urine sample (if possible) or having the get one is best as they can use it to run a urinalysis to check for issues such as infections, glucose in the urine, etc. Other symptoms you may see that can indicate a urinary issue include increased vocalization, accidents, cloudy or bloody urine, straining to go, dribbling urine, frequent trips to the litter box, changes in weight/appetite, and changes in thirst/water intake. Be sure to let your vet know if you've seen any of these additional signs.
