My cat's pee smells sweet & she's peeing outside the litter box. Why?

This makes me suspicious that one of the cats may have diabetes. If any of the cats are drinking more water or urinating more frequently then that would increase my concerns of diabetes. Poor Callie! Given that she has bad breath, is peeing outside the litter box, losing weight, and drinking frequently, I would be concerned she has a medical illness wrong such as kidney disease or diabetes. The bad breath could also be due to a dental problem, which the urination problems could be caused by a UTI or bladder stones. She definitely needs to see a vet right away.

Older cats have a tendency to have problems with their kidneys as they get older. This can result in their kidneys not concentrating their urine as well, so it is more dilute and has less (or no) odor to it. Kidney disease can cause a number of problems, so I would recommend having your veterinarian evaluate Lilly and check a urine sample and blood work. Having more dilute urine can also predispose older cats to urinary tract infections, that will will be important to check for as well. If you have one available in your area, you might consider having a house call vet come to the house if Lilly does not do well going to the vet. Urinating outside the litter box is a very common behavior problem reported to vets. Inappropriate urination can be a way of your cat letting you know they aren't well. It can signal a urinary tract infection, kidney disease, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism, among other things. The first step to treating this is to take your cat to the vet for a health check. Your vet will do a urinalysis to see if there is blood or bacteria in the urine (signaling a UTI), or glucose in the urine which can suggest diabetes. Your vet will also do routine lab tests such as a biochemistry to check organ functions. Once a medical problem is ruled out as the cause of the inappropriate urination, your vet can discuss behavioral methods with you to help stop this behavior.

Urine with an unusual "sticky" feeling is a common sign of diabetes, due to increased levels of glucose in the urine - this is a common problem in older cats. Other things that could cause an increased amount of urine in the litterbox along with an abnormal appearance would include chronic kidney disease, or hyperthyroidism. I would recommend taking CC to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do blood work and urine testing to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

Increased drinking in cats with a urine that has a strong odor is concerning for a couple possible medical issues, such as diabetes, a urinary tract infection, a kidney issue, or another underlying issue. Hello! I'm afraid it sounds like Kit T Kat may have diabetes, but unfortunately there is no home remedy for this! She needs to have some bloodwork done, and, if she has diabetes, may need to be on insulin. Sorry to hear about this! Hope you are able to take her in.
