My Sphynx cat has a rash all over her body. Is it from not bathing?

I would recommend considering bathing him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. There are prescription formulas available. Next, he may require a different antibiotic. I would use one suited for his skin such as a cephalosporin. If he is itching, he will need a medication to decrease the inflammation as well. It will be important to start him on a prescription probiotic as well due to the frequent use of antibiotics. If the skin does not improve, he may require testing to rule out other conditions. Poor Rasha! This rash could be caused by a contact allergy or a skin infection. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain and it is best that he is seen by a vet for this rash. While you can give him an oatmeal bath will may help temporarily give him relief, it will not cure the rash. Curing the rash requires diagnosis of the cause and medications from the vet. Many human medications and ointments contain ingredients that are not safe for cats, so it's best to take him into the vet Monday morning to get this rash treated.

Unfortunately, there a lot of causes behind skin rashes and hair loss, which is why it is important to bring Duchess to a vet for a workup. Rashes can be caused by issues such as parasites (fleas, ticks, lice, ect) which can cause a bite allergy -- and does present similar to the picture you provided. Other causes of rashes can include bacterial or fungal infections, underlying illnesses, food or environmental allergens. I would treat Duchess for any fleas and also be sure to thoroughly wash all bedding, clean her environment, vacuum floorboards, etc. You can also try an allergy medication while treating for the fleas to help reduce irritation while she heals (your vet can give you the correct dosage for Duchess' weight and size). Using an old T-shirt or an Elizabethan (cone) collar to keep her from licking and chewing the irritated area can also help reduce the chances of an infection taking hold. It's still a good idea to schedule a vet visit even if you are doing home treatment. This can help rule out any other causes, and your vet can monitor progress on the allergy/flea treatment to make any adjustments if needed.

Make sure you are using a good flea product, not just a cheap one from WalMart. If Molly will let you, you can try bathing her in a medicated shampoo that has Benzoyl Peroxide. If not, please have her seen by your veterinarian. She may need to be treated with a steroid injection &/or antibiotics to clear this up, or to get to the source of the irritation. Take care.

If this is a superficial rash, you can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Pixie could be having an allergic reaction but an early skin infection is also possible. If more bumps appear, or these do not go away with using a mild shampoo bath, I recommend she get checked out by her veterinarian as she may need antibiotics for an infection.

These dark specs are essentially embedded dirt. This stuff is difficult to remove, but will eventually return to normal with regular bathing and a few weeks of time. This is generally not concerning, and there's no signs of infection or irritation, but this can indicate a flea infestation, so it's good to check her carefully for any signs of fleas.
