Cat's head warm but body normal. Is my cat sick or is it normal?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Animals will often feel warm on certain parts of their body but that does not indicate there is a fever. If she was so warm to have a fever she would be acting sick (lethargic, not eating, not playing, etc). I personally would not be worried about this at all. Don't give her a cold bath. At this age kittens cannot thermoregulate well and you will give her a chill which will be the opposite problem (and worse in my opinion). My best recommendation is to monitor her for any signs of illness - if you notice any then take her to the vet for a check-up. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

i wouldn't be worried if just his ears are warm. He is likely just flushed. If you are really concerned take his rectal temperature and if that is above 102.5 degrees F, then I would be concerned that he may have a systemic infection and require medical attention. Otherwise, he is likely fine.

That's not a stupid question at all! Yes, it can mean they have a fever, but keep in mind that their body temperature is naturally higher than ours (101-102.5F is normal), so they tend to feel warmer. To know for sure if they have a fever, take their temperature rectally.

I am sorry to hear that Meaw isn’t feeling well. A normal temperature for a cat is around 100-102 F. A fever could absolutely make her lethargic. If this has been going on for more than one day then I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I strongly recommend getting your cat seen by your vet as soon as possible. Cats can sometimes get fevers with no known origin and it makes them not want to eat. A cat cannot go more than a couple days without eating before they develop liver damage. Your cat may need fluids and supportive care in order to lower his temperature back to normal and support him until his appetite returns.

You can try warming the food or mixing in a teaspoon of baby food into it. This could stimulate her appetite. You can also take her temperature to check for fever. Use a rectal thermometer and sterile lube. Normal temp is between 37 C and 39 C (100 F- 102.5 F). Anything above that is considered a fever and should be addressed by your veterinarian.

That is a nirnak temperature for cats! It can go up to 102 without being considered a fever. If he is eating and drinking well then I would monitor him for any changes. He may have over done it and just need a rest. If he is not back to normal after 24 hours then I would get him checked.
