Will a skittish kitten become cuddly and social after I adopt her?

It likely has nothing to do with you and is more likely her personality. Often, these shelter kittens come from feral, or semiferal conditions where they learn from their mothers to be wary of people. They can definitely make good progress with forced socialization as a kitten, but when they gets past 12 weeks, they are pretty set in their socialization. Also, some cats are simply not cuddly cats no matter where they were born. It's possible that Tessa will learn to like cuddles more as time goes on, but I wouldn't expect her to completely turn around at this age. As long as you are not doing anything that scares her, or makes her uncomfortable, then this is not your fault. If you keep showing her love and affection when she is around, then she will likely make more progress with being cuddly. I hope that helps and all is well with Tessa.

Typically, as long as they aren't feral, fourteen week old kittens are pretty eager for love and attention. Just like most animals, the way to their heart is with food and praise. Use treats to get Joy and DJ's attention and let them have it as they get closer to you. As soon as they allow you to touch them, they get a better treat. If they let you hold them, even better. Some kittens are more shy than others. Give him time. Pet him and talk to him, eventually he will be tamer and interact. Imagine he is in a new place, with new smells, people without his mommy. 2 months of age is still very young to be taken from the mother, so he probably feels very lonely and sad after his mommy.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong! I think it's somewhat common for cats to act very differently in a shelter situation than at home. Sometimes this means that a cat will be fearful or aggressive in the shelter but sweet in a home situation, but it can also mean that a cat seems more affectionate when stressed. Kittens also tend to be more affectionate and tolerant than older cats, so her increased age might be playing a role as well. You may want to try to find another way to spend time with her (like playing or brushing) rather than trying to hold her or snuggle with her.

A cat who was basically feral for 5 months may take quite some time to become more comfortable with handling, and she may never be a cuddly lap cat. It does sound like she is willing to have some interaction with you, so I would continue what you are doing in terms of offering her nice tasty treats when she comes to you. Also feeding her near you if she will eat with you nearby but not touching her (don't want to overwhelm her at first, just get her more used to your presence being nonthreatening). I wouldn't pick her up if it scares her just yet, and I wouldn't force her to meet/be touched or held by new people just yet. I would give her a few more months of settling in. You may also add feline pheremone diffusers (Feliway is my favorite brand) to the house and try calming supplements such as Composure or Zylkene to see if these help relieve some of her anxiety as well. Some cats are simply naturally more skittish than other cats. They have different personalities, just like humans, and it's great that he does seek you out for attention. I definitely would reinforce that behavior in Stinker by giving him the attention as he wants it, and lavishing him with treats and praise when he comes to you for love and attention :-)

Bella is a pretty girl. You don't say how long you've had her but she may just need more time. You can try bribing her a bit with cat treats, catnip or toys to come sit with you. But it could also just be her personality. Some cats are less cuddly than others. Give her some more time and try to see what she enjoys so you can use that to convince her to spend a little more quality time with you. But just enjoy her personality as she gets used to her new home. Things will change as she adjusts.
