Serious cat flea problem? Is Sevin dust safe for my cat and home?

Neither of those would be very effective against fleas. At a home and garden center you may be able to find sevin dust or granules. It's usually very inexpensive and can be sprinkled in areas that the cats frequent. I would concentrate mainly on areas that are cooler and shaded and less on areas that are in full sunlight most of the day; fleas can't tolerate the higher heat and will be attracted to the cooler areas. Sevin dust is a component in topical flea powders, so being around it would not be harmful to the cats. As alternatives, you could sprinkle borax in the areas or diatomaceous earth to help keep the flea population at bay. Thank you for helping stray kitties!

No, I personally would not recommend putting this on your dogs. It's not labeled for use in dogs to kill fleas, not will it provide lasting flea protection. I can give you a flea treatment program for your dogs that is both safe and effective. First, I would give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use the Sevin dust on the carpet, follow the package instructions.

There are 2 products that I particularly like in these cases where different therapies have failed to help. I like Bravecto as a preventative and Capstar to be used concurrently as needed for fleas. Capstar is crucial because it can help kill a lot of fleas at once and it can be used as often as once daily to effect. Also, it is important to vacuum the house and all things that have contact with them frequently. Try this for 1-3 months and if does not make a difference, they may have another type of allergy such as a food allergy or environmental allergy. This is likely going to help. Hello. I would wait the full month before using any more topicals on your cats, so that would mean 10/19. If you want to try a Seresto Collar ( which works very well ), you could put this on today if you like. You can also purchase Capstar ( nitenpyram ) over the counter & administer this every 2-3 days until you can use another topical. If you prefer the topicals, consider using Bravecto for cats. I have been very happy with this for my cats & you just apply this once every 3 months. As for bombs, just see what your garden center carries. Most, if not all, now contain an IGR or insect growth regulator, so look for this as it extends the use of the product when it comes to killing fleas. There are plenty of flea products in the market and a lot of them are very effective. I prefer Bravecto and Frontline plus. You can pick one of those products. The nice thing about Bravecto is that it is very effective and it is only applied once every 3 months. You can also use a product called Capstar along with one of the previously mentioned products which can help kill a lot of fleas at once. These are given every 30 days and need to be used for at least 3 months. You must also treat all the pets in the home. The fipronil products are safe to use at home- just follow the instructions on the packaging. The most important treatment is treating Mayor monthly with a product from his vet. I highly recommend that you consider using a product called Capstar which helps to kill a lot of fleas at once and it can be given every day to effect. I would not give up on the Seresto just yet as it may be failed because of heavy flea exposure and it would otherwise work well. However, if this occurs again especially under regular circumstances then that would be the time to consider other flea preventative products such as Bravecto or Frontline day plus for example. The most effective way of cleaning the house is by vacuuming all the surfaces that have contact with Riley on a daily basis until no fleas are seen.
