My senior Siamese cat is a picky eater. What food should I try?

Congrats on your new kitties! Given that you have a variety of cats, I would get a high quality cat food as opposed to brands for specific breeds. While I do feel that foods for breeds are worthwhile, it's hard to make sure each cat eats their brand specific food when you have a variety of cats. I feel the food for brands are worthwhile because I do find they tailor to the breed's specific need. Royal Canin Persian, for example, have a specially shaped kibble that makes it easier for Persian cats to pick up with their mouth. Persian cats can have a different shaped mouth due to the shortened nasal passages, and I have found my own Persian had trouble picking up cat food. The Royal Canin Persian was very easy for my cat to eat, and I feed him that. In terms of brands, I recommend Royal Canin kitten food. Other good brands include Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams.

Sweetiepie needs to eat cat food because it has certain amino acids needed for heart health that are not found in dog food. If she gets into it every once in a while, that's fine. Fancy Feast seems to offer a variety of flavors. It's not the best food but its not the worst and it's important she eats. Also, I recommend to have Sweetiepie examined by the veterinarian if you are noticing finicky eating. At her age, kidney disease and other health concerns become more common and finicky eating can be one of the first signs of a problem. I hope this helps.

This will ensure that the diet is complete and balanced. As far as specific brands, I like Royal Canin and Science Diet as reliable, high quality pet store brands. This food is not necessarily considered to be a senior diet, however it is appropriate for adult cats and in this case I would not recommend switching to another diet. Senior diets tend to have fewer calories and sometimes have different nutrients and supplements than adult foods. If Trixie is overweight you can try cutting back on the amount of food offered during the day. Royal Canin select protein foods already have increased levels of fatty acids, and you could ask your vet if Trixie might benefit from a dietary supplement for joint health or a probiotic that would be okay with her IBD.

Try to feed Fancy Feast, various fishy flavors, warm the food in the microwave. Hand feed her. use the wet food as a treat, so she thinks it is a treat. Have her teeth checked by the vet, she may have a tooth ache. or severe gingivitis.

I typically recommend a senior food when a cat is around 10 years of age, but that depends on the health status of the cat. This is because their nutritional requirements change as they age. Aging is typically associated with lower energy requirements, and the tendency to lose muscle and gain fat. Immune function and kidney function also decline with age. Because senior cats can be susceptible to gaining weight, and being overweight leads to health problems, senior cat foods are lower in calories to meet their lower energy requirements. With all of this being said, if Boomie is a normal weight (not obese), in good body condition, and is overall healthy, you can give him an adult cat food. Should you notice he starts gaining weight on it, however, I would speak with your vet about switching him to an appropriate senior cat food. I hope this helps!
