My senior cat has yellow mushy stool. Should I change her diet?

Pale coloured stool is very concerning (especially if her diet has not changed) as it indicates that the normal process of digestion and excretion is not being completed. Much of the normal stool colour comes from waste products of digestion including bile pigments and pale faeces can be a result of blockage of bile and/or reduced liver function. I would recommend a vet check and possible blood tests or ultrasound as soon as possible

Considering what you described, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken/white fish and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. I'm assuming Munchkin is a cat. If he has had diarrhea for over a few days, I would recommend to take him into the veterinarian. He will likely get probiotics and an antibiotic. He also needs a fecal examine to check for parasites so be sure to bring a fresh stool sample. At 13 years old, diarrhea can also indicate renal or hepatic issues. If you have not had bloodwork run on him in the past few months, it would be worthwhile to get his levels checked to be safe. At home, try feeding him boiled chicken and white rice. This is a nice bland diet (if he will eat it). I hope this helps!

Hi there. It sounds like Dora either has a GI infection (from a virus, bacteria or parasite) or he's become allergic to the protein in his food. You can try switching his food to a hypoallergenic diet (I like the hydrolyzed protein diet from Royal Canin). Keep in mind it can take several weeks for the loose stool to resolve after switching. Ideally Dora should be seen by a vet before doing this. If he has a simple infection, you vet can check his feces and figure out what's causing the loose stool and prescribe medication to stop the loose stool. However, if this does not resolve or progresses to watery diarrhea, a veterinary evaluation should be pursued. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Khilisha. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He will need to have fecal testing performed. I worry that he has infection if his littermates are affected as well. He will need a medication to help stop the diarrhea. An antibiotic or dewormer will likely be prescribed. If there is not an infection, then his diet could be to blame. I hope this information helps!

I would recommend switching to a different food such as Science Diet or Royal Canin and see if a diet change makes a difference. You may even consider adding in a fiber supplement to help bulk up her stool so that it passes without getting stuck.
