Why is my senior cat weak, sad, and showing his third eyelid?

I’m sorry to hear about Rudy! The picture of the eyes didn’t upload but honestly that’s probably not his main problem. Any animal that has not moved or eaten in 4 days needs to see the emergency vet immediately. Rudy is likely severely dehydrated at this time and very likely in shock. Common reasons for this in a 15 year old cat are kidney failure, unregulated Diabetes, and cancer. I do not recommend anything by mouth unless he is swallowing well and holding himself upright. If he is, small amounts of water as often as you can. Stop immediately if he starts coughing, gagging, or vomiting. I am so sorry again that his came on so suddenly. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The white tissue in the corner of the eyes is the third eye lid. It goes up like this when a cat is unwell. It is not a specific sign for one particular disease but it often means that a cat has fever, has breathing problems, has abdominal discomfort, muscle or joint pain. Please, take Lancelot to your local vets tomorrow for full clinical examination. Your vet may recommend a blood test or abdominal scan to find out what is going on. Good luck !

If he is showing other abnormal signs or you are worried, I would recommend a veterinary exam. The vet will perform a physical exam and ask you questions about his history, habits and behavior. Depending on what they find, recommendations for further diagnostics such as bloodwork may be made. Until you get Simon to the vet, be sure to monitor his eating, drinking, urination and defecation as well as any signs of illness such as vomiting or lethargy. I hope Simon is back to normal soon.

Poor Boots! It definitely sounds like something isn't right. Unfortunately, these are all very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness, so it's not possible to say what's wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. Because of this, I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam as soon as you're able to. He/she can do blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.

It sounds as though Roger is sick with something affecting his GI tract. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration very quickly which can result in weakness and weight loss. The third eyelids are often more exposed with GI upset, pain or dehydration. I recommend having Roger evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. He may need subcutaneous or IV fluids as well as testing to determine the cause of his symptoms.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can think of 2 things: 1) uveitis which is inflammation of the uveal structures in the eye. It can cause light sensitivity. It is diagnosed by measure the intra-ocular pressure. It would come back low. Causes of uveitis in cats is trauma to the eye, feline leukemia, infection, metabolic disease, etc. 2) Haws syndrome. Which is GI disease. In a young cat I would be sure he gets dewormed regardless of a normal stool sample. Consider a dietary change if deworming doesn't resolve the issue. I hope Sofia does well!
