Why is my senior cat on CD urinary dry food vomiting so often?

There are a huge number of reasons that a cat will vomit. Since it sounds like Luna is mostly vomiting undigested food, she may simply be eating the dry food too quickly, so canned food is a great idea to try. Canned food is actually more biologically appropriate and better for a cat's health than dry food, so feeding Luna only canned food is a great idea. In an otherwise healthy cat that has chronic vomiting episodes, it sounds like Rigby may have a condition called inflammatory bowel disease. This is common in cats and is difficult to diagnose (requires an intestinal biopsy). I would ask the vet to consider this diagnosis and then they can prescribe the correct treatment for it to try and see if he has some improvement with his vomiting. Treatment usually involves a highly digestible prescription diet (or comparable over the counter diet such as California Natural by Natura) and steroids. Hill's Science Diet and Purina are also good food. I would try a sensitive stomach formula in Royal Canin first then switch brands. Be sure to keep in mind that a food allergy is just once cause of vomiting. Other causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, hair balls, foreign body, dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion or inflammatory bowel disease. He may be eating too fast. My cat does this sometimes. Try feeding small amounts during the day or you can use a slow feed bowl which makes it harder to gobble the food. You can try keeping him on a sensitive stomach food such as Iams limited ingredient, Fromm, or Purina sensitive stomach. However, it sounds like Keeko may have a inflammatory bowel disease and really the prescription diets have more reliable results. Also I would keep in mind that sudden switches from one food to the next can cause upset stomach issues in and of themselves. It is recommend to do a slow transition over the course of 7-10 days whenever you are making a food change. This is just 1 test to run so this should be something you could feasible do to at least get him started on something more reliable and effective. If the vomiting does not improve within a few weeks of being on the food, or if he develops any more symptoms, then he should be worked up further (i.e. abdominal x-rays). If he was prescribed SO food due to urinary crystals or stones that needs to be the only thing he eats. Any other food can predispose him to another bout of urinary inflammation or crystals. Feeding other food defeats the purpose of the Rx diet. The vomit may be from stress, different food, eating something he shouldn't have or some other underlying disease. If he continues to vomit I would make a veterinary appointment to get him checked out. Make sure that he is still urinating normally, that it's not urinary issues flaring up.

Draco may be eating his food too fast and then it expands (in the case of dry food) and the stomach wants to get rid of it, "thinking" it is overfilling, Better feed him smaller amounts of food over three to four times a day. Eating grass is a sign of a tummy ache or nausea. Draco may also be trying to get rid of a hair ball. In addition, there is a possibility of chronic pancreatitis and gastritis. Older cats also tend to get old cat diseases, such as hyperthyroidism or kidney disease, both of which can cause vomiting. Worst case scenario, especially since Draco is an older kitty, would be lymphoma. I suggest you take Draco to your veterinarian for a senior exam including blood tests, possibly x-rays, if the vomiting does not subside with changing to feeding smaller portions more frequently.
