Senior cat throwing up all food after eating. Is this an emergency?

This is a medical emergency, and you cannot do anything at home for Kitty. He has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

As your cat has not been eating for a few days now as well as not drinking, this is an emergency. Cats can get liver disease from not eating for more than 2 days and not drinking will make them dehydrated and feel even worse and less inclined to drink and eat. Vomiting bile can be a sign of chronic or acute pancreatitis. There are some diseases that will have to be ruled out (can be done easily with a blood test), such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism and dental problems. I think taking her to an emergency clinic is definitely warranted.

I recommend that you have Peaches evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. This is very concerning. Your cat may be suffering from pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism or severe gastritis or an intestinal blockage, By now this is an emergency and you will need to take your cat to a vet right away. Do not wait until the weekend or after , as your cat may even get sicker considering no food is being held. This can cause hyerlipidemia in addition to her illness and is life threatening. Oh dear - poor Mickey! I agree that it's very concerning that she's been vomiting so much today and hasn't been eating or drinking. It's less surprising to me that she isn't using the litter box right now -- remember, nothing going in means nothing coming out. Given her young age, the most common cause for vomiting with a loss of appetite is a gastrointestinal obstruction or blockage from eating something she shouldn't have. As a result, I would strongly recommend taking Mickey to an emergency vet right away for evaluation. They'll be able to examine her and perform any necessary diagnostics (namely x-rays) to help get to the bottom of this issue. If Mickey is diagnosed with an obstruction, she'll need surgery to remove the blockage. In this situation, it's best not to delay treatment. I hope that she makes a speedy recovery!

Poor Peanut! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. If he hasn't been seen by a veterinarian yet for this issue, that's what I would suggest as a starting point. There are many things that can cause chronic GI issues like this in cats, including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic pancreatitis, a food allergy or intolerance to something in his diet, or even a systemic illness like hyperthyroidism. Many of these issues are very treatable with medication and/or a special diet once a diagnosis is made, so there's a good chance your veterinarian will be able to help. I would recommend taking him in for a visit as soon as you're able to.
