Senior cat has bloody stool after eating chicken livers. Emergency?

There is a little bit of blood but not an excessive amount, so I wouldn't get too worried just yet. It could be from overeating, but yes have Lilo seen by a vet for it. It's not an emergency since she is otherwise fine, you can wait until the morning to have her seen.

It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.

Many disease processes can cause loose bloody stool including: intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, lymphoma (cancer of the intestines), dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have), and even a bacterial infection. The first step would be to do a full panel bloodwork analysis, fecal exam and urinalysis done on Oliver. This should be ble to narrow things down quite a bit so that your vet can know what Oliver needs treatment wise. I would suggest scheduling an appt for him soon at your local vet. Hello. Fortunately, this is not an emergency. Cat stool is usually pretty dry, so occasional blood is not unusual. I usually recommend 1/8 teaspoon of Miralax twice daily, but you can go up to 1/4 teaspoon twice daily for a few days. Too much Miralax can lead to electrolyte imbalances, so if the blood & dry stool continues, your veterinarian might want to put Lilly on some Lactulose. Do everything you can to increase the liquids taken in by Lilly, including tuna water, or low sodium broth added to food or offered separately along with fresh water. She might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 8 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If the blood in the stools do not resolve, take her to the vet to get treatment.

Please take a sample to your veterinarian and they will look under the microscope for parasite eggs. If they find some they will prescribe the correct dewormer for Eli. If there are no parasites and this continues Eli should go in for an exam. He could have an anal infection, rectal polyp or intestinal inflammation causing the blood. Cats do have blood in the stool more often than other animals so if he's normal and this only happens once in a while I would just keep an eye on him, and bring him in if it is a constant issue. I recommend that you have Clover evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
