Why is my senior cat angry and lethargic after hospital discharge?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mochi! She is adorable! I have a few questions, is Mochi on any medications? If so, what are they. Medications can make cats vomit. Or the medications she was given while at the Vet hospital. I recommend stopping any oral medications you are giving and call the Veterinarian in charge of Mochi's care. If she is not on any medication I still think you should call to discuss if any medication she was given the end of Sept could be upsetting her stomach. If this isn't mediated related I wouldn't allow too many days tog o by before having her rechecked. Other causes of vomiting are: viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, intestinal inflammation, foreign body ingestion (some thing is stuck), food allergy or intolerance, ate something that is disagreeing with her. Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.

I would monitor her for the next 24 hours and if the vomiting worsens I would take her back in but if she does not vomit but is lethargic and weak, this should resolve. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. It might also help to contact the veterinarian who did the sedation to find out what drugs were used and why she is still sedated.

If no improvement, I would check with your veterinarian if she is on any medications as this could be due to her reacting to a medication. If she is not on any medications and she does not improve, I would also check in with your veterinarian to make sure that she is not acting like this due to discomfort. Sometimes it can take some time for cats to recover from anesthesia and administration of these medications together so that could be a reason why it has been taking him longer than expected to recover. If he is eating and otherwise doing well, it may be ok to monitor him for a bit longer. However, if he worsens or by tomorrow he has not improved, he should be evaluated by his veterinarian for reevaluation. Good luck and have a great day!

Temporary Incontinence is very common following relief of obstruction and tends to resolve over 10-14days. The reasons why are poorly understood but seem to be related to muscle weakness and poor nerve control as well as an increase in urine production following kidney insult and tends to improve gradually.

Hi. This may be normal after spending a lot of time in the hospital. Most pets don't sleep or get as much rest as normal in the hospital.
