My pregnant cat is anxious. Can I sedate her for a vet visit?

Many cats are very bad travellers and the stress of such a long journey in a heavily pregnant cat may induce complications and early delivery of the kittens; it would be unsafe to try to sedate her for such a journey. I recommend you try to find somebody to look after her until after she has had the kittens and they are weaned (4-5weeks of age)

How lovely of you to look after this stray cat! She's beautiful. You are absolutely right that she should see a vet, as that will be the only way to know for sure how far along Shadow is in her pregnancy. You could see if there is a mobile vet clinic in your area that can come to your house to see her. Some of these mobile vets will have a fully decked out mobile unit including an x-ray machine. If you don't have one of those in your area, then I would bring her into the vet. Hide the kennel out of sight, and set up it up so that it is standing up with the door open at the top (I hope this makes sense lol). Pick her and carry her over to the kennel, and then gently lower her into the kennel. Have her seen by a vet as soon a possible. I hope this helps!

Prolonged stress like this can trigger premature labor and dystocia in cats. Ideally, Bella should be allowed to have kittens where she is.

i do not recommend giving her any medications unless directed by your vet, especially since she is pregnant. Some medications can not be used in pregnant animals. If she has an infection and needs an antibiotic than you could ask your vet if he/she has Convenia which is an injectable antibiotic that lasts 2 weeks so you would not have to give it orally.

Hello, sorry to hear about Maanu. Depending on how far along she is, this may be a sign that she is going into labor. If so, make sure she has comfortable area that is private so that she may have her kittens. She may also be hungry as pregnant cats will have a higher demand for food especially if she is earlier in her pregnancy. What I can recommend is that you try using Feliway spray and other natural calming medications like Zylkene first. Try it now before you are due to travel. Start giving the Zylkene twice daily. Then take a day where you want to test her. Spray the Flyway spray in the carrier and in the car, wait 15 minutes and then take her for a short drive. Neutering could definitely help the aggression problem. I would also recommend picking up a product called Feliway. It comes in a spray and a plug in and it has pheromones that can help calm your cat. You will not be able to smell it. Sometimes this helps, too. You can also spray the towel in the carrier so he can bring it with him to the vet. I would contact your vet for an oral medication to help sedate him prior to his next exam. This would help ensure his safety and every one that handles him.
