Why does my rescue cat only like men and not women in the house?

There is no known correlation between an owner's sex and there ability to bond with their pet of the same sex. Lio may have just bonded more closely with your partner than you for reasons we may never fully understand. If you want to forge a closer relationship with Lio, my main suggestion would be to try and emulate your partner the best you can, as this seems to be the key to Lio's heart.

Hello, some cats can undergo different behaviors and may prefer different people at times. This is typically not associated with anything major. However, there are some diseases that may cause changes in attitude. This includes hyperthyroidism and rarely acromegaly. Other signs with these diseases include increased drinking and urinations, a ravenous appetite, and weight loss. This can be screened with routine bloodwork, so have him evaluated by your veterinarian for these. Some cats are just 'one person cats' meaning they naturally don't care for anyone other than 'their' person. This sounds like Lourdes personality to me! It is not uncommon for animals of the same sex to take longer to become friendly with one another than animals of the opposite sex. I find it to be more common in females than in males. They may see each other as competition for the male's attention. It may also be a simple territorial action that your established cat is making. I would consider perhaps a continued slow introduction to one another under your supervision. Cats be trained just as dogs (a little harder) with positive reinforcement. Some cats are very talkative, and can respond when people speak to them. I have a Ragdoll who meows when I call his name, and comes when I call him. He may love your scent, which is why he takes your stuff only. He just sounds very attached to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. In general, cats tend to get along better with members of the opposite sex so you may want to consider adopting a male. Kittens can be quite annoying to older cats, but with an older cat it may be difficult to determine what their personality is like prior to adoption and older cats are not quite as adaptable as kittens are. If there is a rescue group or shelter in your area you may want to ask about young adult cats with easygoing personalities - there may even be a rescue that would allow you to take a cat home for a trial period. If you do end up adopting a new cat be sure to introduce them to each other very slowly, make sure they have separate resources at first (food, water, resting areas and litter pans) and consider a pheromone spray like Feliway to reduce stress.
