Ragdoll cats won't bury poop in chip litter; it smells. What to do?

Baking soda is definitely a viable option. I wouldn't add any sort of out side products into the litter. I would just choose a litter that is effective at disguising unwanted odors. The Arm and Hammer Double Duty and the Ultra are both really effective in my opinion at accomplishing this. There are also covered litter boxes that have little filters on top of them that help contain some of the odor. Another thing you might want to consider trying is to get one of those deodorizer jars and simply leave one open right next to the litter box. This will absorb a good portion of the unwanted odor. Hopefully, the new litter alone will solve your not-burying problem. Hope this make sense.

I hate to hear that Moonshine is having this issue. Try adding a second litter box and make sure to clean the boxes daily. Studies have shown that cats prefer large, uncovered litter boxes with a clumping clay based litter. They want to box to be in a private area where they cannot be trapped by other pets. Certainly make sure you are sticking to the guidelines. Experiment with different locations of the box and see if he has a preference. Some cats who poop outside the litter box can actually have pain when they have bowel movements and this could contribute to the behavior. You may try changing the diet and see if this helps. Feeding a mainly canned food diet will help with the water content. Look for foods with high fiber contents as this helps bowel motility. Lastly, there is a diet made specifically for cats with bowel issues. Its made by Royal Canin and it is called Fiber Response. Cats tend to do very well on this diet. This may have been just a one time thing for Dana so I wouldn't worry too much yet. I'd suggest ensuring good litter box habits by: 1) cleaning the litter at least once daily (twice if you can) 2) keeping the litter level at least 4-6 inches deep 3) making sure the litter box is very large to ensure Dana has a lot of room to move around and cover her feces 4) Make sure the litter box is in quiet area so Dana won't be disturbed when going to the bathroom. I would put actual cat litter, purchased from your local pet store, in the box. Most cats won't go in a box with mud in it. Mud isn't a texture that they find particularly appealing. Even newspaper is more appealing than mud. Try that and see how Shunu likes it. Best wishes.

Hi, most issues with the litter tray are related to having a litter that it is too small or not cleaned as frequently enough. Apart from getting a bigger tray you could try adding some leaves and dirt to make it look more natural, also make sure that it is a place where she feels safe when going and can’t be disturbed when “performing” :-) hope this helps !

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lazgah. Is he burying his stool in the litter as this will help to decrease the odor? If not, then I would try another litter type to see if he likes it better. Another option is to try another diet that may work better for him. Hello, sorry to hear about Bunny. some things you could consider is getting a larger litter box. Additionally, you should have the litter box in a place where its private for them so as to make them more comfortable. Finally, you should always an equal number of litter boxes as cats, and then have an extra one. You kitty may not be having enough privacy while going into the box and thus not using it adequately. If this doesn't help, you may need to try a covered litter box or even a different type of litter. Hope this helps and best of luck.
