Why does my healthy cat's poop smell so awful and fill the house?

Poop smell is dependent on the type of intestinal bacteria your kitty harbors. these are good bacteria, but some just smell awful. The same is true for bacteria in his anal glands. He may not be covering his poop enough, because he himself ma be disgusted with it, so only does a half-hearted job. If he is otherwise healthy then there is nothing to worry about. A bottle of Febreze may be your only weapon against the smell. Sometimes changing food, especially changing to wet (canned) food, pate-style, may change the intestinal flora and the smell changes too.

If he has IBD then you should talk to your vet about trying a prescription hypoallergenic diet like d/d or z/d or possible an OTC diet like Science diet sensitive stomach. These diets are easier to digest and may help with his IBD and the smell of his stool.

It definitely can be the food. I would check a stool sample and see if they have intestinal parasites. If the stool sample from the litter box is positive I would just treat all 3 of your cats. Raw diets, particularly meat, can cause bacterial infections such as E. coli and salmonella. I recommend stopping the raw food and seeing if that helps your cats feces. If it is still stinky it could be a G.I. parasite or infection and your veterinarian needs to do an exam.

You might need to change the litter to a better quality one, put more of it in the litter box and clean it twice a day. if this does not solve the problem Lalu might be suffering from a urinary infection which will require a vet visit.

He could have an infection, parasites, metabolic disease (liver, kidney), endocrine disease (thyroid, diabetes), or an obstruction. The best thing would be to have him examined by veterinarian to determine the exact cause and best treatment. You're vet can run lab work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and treat the problem. If he is dehydrated your vet can give fluids and medications to help control the vomiting.
