My rabbit's leg is injured. Can she recover without a vet visit?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This kind of fracture in wildlife most likely is not be treatable. Nugget will have to have the leg amputated in the best case scenario. Please, take her to your local vets right away as this is an emergency.

If she is holding the foot in the air and not using it, it's probably a serious injury, either a fracture or a dislocation. you need to take her to the vet ASAP, they will need to check her and will probably recommend doing an xray to evaluate the severity of the injury.

If you believe that Boston Bunnelby may have been injured by his cage, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and look for evidence of soft tissue or skeletal injury and treat accordingly, if needed. If he is otherwise moving around as usual and acting normally (eating, drinking, urinating, defecating) normally, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!

The outcome of this little guy seems very poor, and even if she had surgery, her recovery would be difficult and prognosis guarded. Have you looked into the local wildlife authorities, or animal shelters? They would be able to take in the bunny and have her put to sleep. As difficult as it is to make this decision, putting her down would be in her best interest to alleviate her pain and suffering under the circumstances. It sounds as if this bunny has a very serious injury and is in critical condition. I would recommend taking it to a veterinarian as soon as possible so it can get appropriate treatment. This does not sound like an injury you can treat at home. Even if you are not able to afford its care I’m sure any vet’s office would be willing to see if they can help it if you are willing to relinquish it. I hope this helps.
