My rabbit has chin fungus after mange. How to treat it safely?

You really need to get the infection examined by a vet if this is possible, because this could be a bacterial and not fungal infection. Ideally the lesion should be cultured. Antibiotics can be very dangerous for rabbits so it's really important to get the right diagnosis and the right medication before treating him.

Thanks for reaching out about Moyel. Benzyl benzoate would not be good if ingested. Try topical aloe vera 100%. Pain medications from the veterinarian might also provide some comfort. Ivermectin is the appropriate treatment for mites but could there also be a secondary bacterial infection? Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Bob and including photos. This does appear to be an infection, which could be bacterial, fungal or yeast. Did the veterinarian look into the mouth with an instrument (ototoscope) to visual cheek teeth? Moist dermatitis can be green with a bacterial infection called Pseudomonas, which can be difficult to treat. Try to train and switch to a water bottle. Maybe decrease vegetables. A new veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

This is most likely Scabies (a mite infestation), this can become much more severe than that, i recommend taking him to the vet ASAP, he will need an injection of ivermectin (3 times one week apart), this should resolve the problem within 2-4 weeks.

It is either ringworm (fungus) or some type of parasite (like mites). Just because the others don't have mites does not mean it is not mites. Some mites are not contagious. I really have no idea what diseases are prevalent in rabbits in Malayasia. You can certainly use the topical medicine from your other rabbit to see if it helps. If it doesn't then you will have to try something else.

With chin dermatitis, oftentimes it is caused by drooling from some form of dental disease. It would probably be warranted for your veterinarian to take a good look at the teeth under anesthesia/sedation. Most likely regardless of the cause there is a bacterial infection occurring now. I would recommend culturing the lesion. If antibiotics are indicated, many pharmacies do flavoring which can really help with oral compliance. Also, I would try to keep the lesion dry with an astringent or manually just keeping the area dry with a clean cloth. Overall a good exam and history (any new changes in bedding, food area, detergents, caging), with some other diagnostics if possible including x-rays, blood work and oral exam will probably be helpful toward determining the underlying cause. This could be very easy to treat especially if due to misalignment of her teeth. Good luck with Donut.

It looks as though this product is 2% w/v, which translates to 20mg moxidectin per ml. Based on that information, Moyel would receive 0.029ml according to your vet's directions. The Quest gel is labeled for exclusive use in horses and clearly states that it should not be used in other species. As a result, I would inquire further with your vet as to their planned course of treatment. Even if they feel comfortable prescribing this medication in an off-label fashion (which is commonly done!), the volume of medication appropriate for Moyel is so minuscule that it's next to impossible to achieve accurate dosing. I would instead ask if they have recommendations for topical treatments of moxidectin or selamectin if they're more comfortable using those medications rather than injectable ivermectin.
