Pregnant cat peeing outside litter box: Is it normal or a health issue?

It can be very difficult to know if inappropriate urination is due to a medical condition or not. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian to help rule out a medical problem first. While the urine test strips are the same, veterinarians will typically also perform a urine sediment exam. Veterinarians will also typically obtain a sterile urine sample directly from the bladder via cystocentesis.

That's very kind of you to take in this stray cat! This peeing on the bed can be a sign of a medical illness, such as a UTI or bladder stone. I would recommend taking your girl into your vet tomorrow for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.

If you litter box is covered, I would try uncovering it and adding an additional uncovered litter box somewhere else in the house. If your vet has already ruled out an urinary tract infection, I would also consider adding some feliway diffusers around the house. Feliway is a cat pheromone which can help to calm stressed cats and help with inappropriate urination. If this doesn't help, I would talk to your vet about starting an anti-anxiety medicine like amitryptiline. I hope this helps and he stops soon!

As long as she is eating, drinking and urinating normally, I would not worry too much about it. She might be nesting in some way. Good luck with the birth and kittens. Please keep posting about any questions you may have in the future!

It sounds like your cat has a case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon, resulting in an increase in the volume and frequency of stools. 

 Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites (most likely in a pregnant cat), dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, a foreign body/blockage and viruses. 

I would recommend taking your cat in to your vet to be examined. They will likely want to check a stool sample and may recommend some lab work, a dietary change, and/or antibiotics.

Decreased appetite is normal in the later stages of pregnancy. So no worries there, as long as she is eating portions of her food. Loose stool can also occur, but should return to normal after a few days, and she should still have normal energy level and not hide. Hiding in cats, when they typically are social cats, is usually an indicator that something is wrong. I would see how she does in the next day or two, and if the diarrhea does not resolve, then have her stools checked by your vet. She may have intestinal parasites, or it could be loose due to stress from the pregnancy. I hope that Mia's stools return to normal soon. Best of luck moving forward and take care. : )

I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about checking a urinalysis on Bageara. She may just have a urinary tract infection that can be treated with antibiotics. If the urine is clear then I would recommend doing blood work on her to check her kidney values. I would also remove the top to the litter box. Some cats just don't like covered boxes.
