Pregnant stray cat with infection: Will labor be safe without vet?

It is hard to see clearly the extent of this lesion as the photo is a bit blurry. It definitely looks like an infected skin lesion....whether it started as a ruptured abscess, a traumatic wound or other...I cannot say for sure. This should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible for proper treatment which should include a prescription antibiotic and wound cleaning. If it needs surgical debrisement, make sure the doctor is aware of the pregnancy. Hopefully it can just be cleaned without any sedation, but medication is going to be needed to treat the infection. There are numerous antibiotics that are safe for pregnant cats.

Poor cat! There are no photos attached so I can't see what this wounds look like but I can say that if there is pus, it's infected. I am so very sorry to hear about your kitty! It does appear, unfortunately, that your kitty could have an infection going on in the foot here, as the area looks swollen with purulent discharge coming from the area. Unfortunately when we have an area like this, a topical treatment is usually not going to suffice and oral or injectable antibiotics is often needed. We can see infections as a result of overgrown or ingrown toenails, wounds, foreign bodies (like a piece of splinter or grass seed) entering the skin, and sometimes we can also get fungal infections. Without seeing your kitty in person it is very hard to determine. I know you say you cannot afford a vet, but I think you will have to figure out a way to get your kitty in to see the vet. They can look more closely at the toe and the nail to try to determine the cause. They may be able to do this just by looking and feeling the area, they may want to test the discharge to check for bacteria or fungus They may need to flush the wound to be sure there isn't any object lodged there. I would recommend calling the vet's office and letting them know your situation. They may have a program called Care Credit that you can apply for to help pay your vet bills with monthly payments, or they may have another program set up similar to this. If they do not, they may be able to refer you to a low cost clinic in your area. Some Humane Society's or animal shelters have lower cost services for those in need. It is best to let your vet know up front of your financial situation so that they can choose the most stream-lined and cost effective options for you from the start.

The first thing I would do is treat her with Advantage or another flea prevention product until you can get her in for an exam. Fleas can cause some of these lesions and she most likely has ear mites also. If you are able to take her in they can examine her ears and skin and give her medication to stop the scratching and antibiotics or an antibiotic injection to treat the skin infection. If she is a stray I recommend a blood test first for feline leukemia and FIV as these are serious cat diseases that there is no cure for and are infectious to other cats. If she is negative for those getting her skin treated and getting her neutered are important for her health. I'm glad you are taking care of Baby as she certainly needs veterinary care. What cute kitties. I agree that upper respiratory infections caused by either calicivirus or herpesvirus is usually the culprit when dealing with stray kitties. I am. It sure what bone you are referring to without seeing it in person, but I would have to guess that this is probably just their floating rib that is prominent because they are likely underweight. The fleas and upper respiratory infection should be a relatively easy fix through your vet with proper flea prevention, antibiotics and an anti-viral (i.e. Lysine powder or gel). That is difficult to say. We would have to have a diagnosis and its best that she is healthy and strong for the birth. She should be seen and also have her health checked just for being pregnant. If finances are tough, it would be best to get her spayed after she is done weaning the kittens.

Poor kitty. The picture you have posted does show pus (infection) discharge from her vaginal area. This is likely pus coming from her uterus. Antibiotics alone unfortunately won't cure her of her pyometra infection. There is a stronger medication that has been tried and successful in a few cases of pyometra that you can get prescribed by your veterinarian but it also isn't cheap. The medication also isn't a guarantee. Surgical removal of the ovaries is the only wayt to guarantee success when dealing with a pyometra. I can understand your financial restraints here.
