Is diarrhea normal for a pregnant cat near labor or delivery?

My cat who is pregnant I think is near birth Has diarrhea is this normal?

Poor Ginger. The pregnancy itself can be stressful to your pets body and cause some diarrhea to occur. However it should resolve within a day or two if stress alone is the cause. If it doesn't improve or resolve then she may have intestinal parasites causing this. Try adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the filling) to her food daily to add fiber and encourage hard stool formation. If things don't get better then reach out to your vet to see if they will would like to see her (depending on how late stage she is) for treatment of the diarrhea. Some dewormers and medicines are safe to use when a pet is pregnant and some are not.
Best of luck and I hope that the rest of her pregnancy is uneventful and results in happy healthy kittens.

The most common reason for diarrhea is intestinal parasites (worms). She can be dewormed while pregnant with a drug called pyrantel pamoate. I don't know what you have available in your country. You can ask a vet near you if you can purchase some. I would also recommend a probiotic like this one:

Since Cookie is pregnant it is best that she be seen by a Vet. I would recommend a bland diet like Hill's i/d and a probiotic. I try to avoid medications in pregnant animals. There are not safe human medications to give her. Cats are very sensitive and can not tolerate medications regardless of being pregnant. Bring a stool sample to the Vet with you.

Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, reaction to a diet change, ate something gross, pancreatitis, intestinal disease.

Loose stool can also occur, but should return to normal after a few days, and she should still have normal energy level and not hide. Hiding in cats, when they typically are social cats, is usually an indicator that something is wrong. I would see how she does in the next day or two, and if the diarrhea does not resolve, then have her stools checked by your vet. It sounds like your cat has a case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon, resulting in an increase in the volume and frequency of stools.    Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites (most likely in a pregnant cat), dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, a foreign body/blockage and viruses.   I would recommend taking your cat in to your vet to be examined. They will likely want to check a stool sample and may recommend some lab work, a dietary change, and/or antibiotics.    I hope this helps. Pregnant cat has diarrhea, not eating. Is she sick or in labor?

I would continue to keep a close eye on Irma. If you aren't exactly sure of her breeding date, she may be farther along than you expect. If her pregnancy has not been confirmed with ultrasound or x-rays, it is possible that she has a false pregnancy. We can't judge pregnancy based on the size of the belly, since kittens will move things around as they grow - the belly doesn't always get as large as you would expect. Decreased appetite and some diarrhea can occur shortly before going into labor. If the diarrhea and poor appetite last longer than 24 hours and Irma hasn't gone into active labor, then I would recommend that you have her checked out by a vet. I would be concerned she may be unwell - although vomiting and diarrhea can be seen generally if related to labor then delivery should start within a couple of hours - not 2+ days. I recommend you have her checked by your vet to ensure she is not carrying any infections which could potentially be passed onto the kittens

As long as she continues to eat well, this should slowly resolve over the course of the next 3-4 days. I am sorry we couldn’t get to your question sooner! I hope Blackie is still doing well. I would recommend that she get checked out by a vet. I would be concerned that the fluid coming out is not urine and instead is amniotic fluid. This could indicate that even though you don’t see her pushing, the kittens are ready to come out. The diarrhea can also be a sign of impending or active labor. You can use washcloths to help her stay clean, and a small amount of ointment like Neosporin to help protect her anus. The vet will need to exam this for a rectal prolapse. A prolapse can occur in animals straining, whether to defecate/have diarrhea or during labor. depending on the severity, it may require surgical correction.

I'm pregnant and my cat has diarrhea. Is it safe if it gets on me?

Nothing can happen through the skin please don' t worry. However, you always need to wash your hands and wear gloves when you handle his litter tray or your clothes which have diarrhoea on it. Make sure the house is clean etc normal hygiene rules. I would recommend to have him checked over so his diarrhoea can be treated, and he can be neutered, wormed so that everything is in order for when the baby arrives.
