My older cat hisses at kittens but cuddles them. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Devon Rex | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 8 lbs

I got 2 Devon Rex Kitten to befriend my older Devon Rex (5y), they're all males. I have neutered all of them. Everything was fine for a month or so but then suddenly my older cat started hissing for the younger kitten a lot, ad even hitting him sometimes. Whats strikes me the most is that they still seem to be ok (they sleep together ans even wash eachother). Just a bit worried. Maybe its because the kittens have so uvh energy that the older one gets pissed off? Would really appreciate help!

IT can be common for two cats to get along sometimes and not other just like children. The cats are working together to figure out perfect harmony in there environment. I would not be concerned unless you notice abnormal urination/defecation or you feel like the two cats are constantly fighting. IF they are having occasional disagreements that can just be normal pet behavior. If you feel the younger cat has a lot of energy I would recommend trying to increase play by hiding toys and treats around the house. Hope that helps

It could be Obi is letting the kitten know his boundaries and when he wants him to stop certain behaviors. This is normal, and I would not worry about stopping it. He needs to express his feelings in a safe way, and hissing is fine. Aggression is not, and as long as he's not being aggressive, you don't need to stop it. Best of luck.

My new kitten hisses at my older cat. How can I make them friends?

It may take time for Lilly to accept your other cat even though she is the smaller new cat. Some cats just don't do well together so if this behavior continues or gets worse I would recommend either talking to a veterinary behaviorist (if there is one in your area) or considering finding someone who can provide Lilly a great life as an only cat. If she is hissing at him just occasionally, it's not always a bad sign as it may be because the nursing is hurting her but if this is constant she might be rejecting him. in that case you will have to separate them and feed the kitten yourself with kitten milk replacer.

My kittens hiss at new ones. What steps help them integrate?

This is very normal behavior. Make sure you provide plenty of litter boxes and food and water bowls to decrease the stress and competition of the kittens. Also, you can put some feliway diffusers in their room to help calm them. Feliway is a cat pheromone to help calm them but it doesn’t work on everyone. Give them some time and hopefully they will start to warm up to each other. I hope this helps!

Why does my older cat growl at kitten during play, then groom her?

It is OK behavior but not great. I am worried that this could escalate into a serious fight. I suggest you try using some Feliway diffusers in the house and do some environmental enrichment for them. How to stop 6-week-old littermate kittens from growling and hissing?

The kittens are learning to live together. They play and fight and are generally a bunch of little toddlers learning how to behave around other cats. I am not concerned about their behavior at this point. You may want to put an extra litter box and food bowl out so they have plenty of options. I am sorry about your sleep! The best option may be to house the kittens in another room so they don't disturb you.
