Why is my older cat eating less? Is it a sign of a health problem?

In an older cat, my first thought would be dental disease. This would be painful for Krinkle, cause him to eat less, and subsequent weight loss. It could also be that he has diabetes, kidney failure, or hyperthyroidism. Having him seen by a vet this week is a good idea. I hope this helps!

So when there is a decrease in appetite, this is significant. She will be examined and will likely need laboratory work to help diagnose her problem. Appetite changes and weight loss in older cats are usually due to an underlying medical problem, rather than just "getting old." Tori does look a little thin. It is very common for the physical exam to normal but there is no way the vet can tell what is going on inside with the function of the internal organs.
