My old cat is trembling after moving. Is it cold, anxiety, or pain?

Trembling is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If Emmy is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now. However, if at any point she appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure. Is she showing any other symptoms? Is she still eating, is she moving around normally or does she seem painful, is she vomiting, having diarrhea, or having any coughing or sneezing? Shivering can occur due to being cold, or nauseous, or painful. All of these are possible causes. Make sure she's protected from cold and wind, and if she's not improving and you know she is not cold, take her to your vet for an exam. It can be very hard to find the cause for intermittent tremors, so while it's appropriate to have him checked out, your vet may not be able to find anything. I would recommend a general exam, a neurologic exam, and a general bloodwork panel including urinalysis and thyroid levels to make sure everything looks normal. If all that is normal, and a veterinary neurologist isn't available where you are, your kitty can either just be monitored to make sure it's not getting worse, or you could try an anti-seizure or anti-tremor medication. Those medications definitely can have side effects, so you probably only want to go that route if the episodes seem to be causing lasting harm. I hope that helps a bit. Good luck!

It totally can mean that Miley is scared and not sure where she is or what happened. This is the most likely and sensible option. I would confine her to a room with food/water and a litter box. Get things settled and visit with her often. Let her get used to that room. It may take 1-2 days for her to start eating. If she is eating and eliminating normally I do not think she is sick. If she won't eat by day 3, starts vomiting or showing other symptoms have her examined. After a week, if she looks calm and happy open the door and let her explore your new place at her convenience. With your description, I would be concerned about a respiratory problem, hypothermia or systemic infection. The outdoor temperature is cold right now so if he was exposed to very cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time, he may be hypothermic. These tremors could be a simple thing such as mild irritation to the skin in that area, or something much more concerning such as petit seizures or a symptom of a toxicity. An exam with a vet would really be necessary to determine what's causing Udel's tremors. It's definitely a good sign that she's still active, and if she's acting pretty normal and eating well then you can likely monitor her for a day or two - but if this continues then I recommend scheduling an exam with your vet. If you can, I recommend trying to capture a little video of the tremors, just in case she doesn't do them at the vet's office, so they can see what you're noticing at home. If your vet is providing curbside care, you could e-mail the video for them to see. In the meantime, if Udel starts acting sick, lethargic, unsteady on her feet, or shows any other concerning signs of progressing symptoms, then an ER visit may be necessary today as I'd be worried about a possible toxicity.
