My cat is trembling. Is it serious and what should I do next?

Your cat may be chilly, nervous, or the trembling may be a sign of pain. Because Alex is an older cat it is reasonable to assume he has some degree of arthritis. I would recommend taking Alex in to be examined by your veterinarian. He may benefit from a joint supplementation and/or an anti-inflammatory medication. Best of luck. Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure. Is she showing any other symptoms? Is she still eating, is she moving around normally or does she seem painful, is she vomiting, having diarrhea, or having any coughing or sneezing? Shivering can occur due to being cold, or nauseous, or painful. All of these are possible causes. Make sure she's protected from cold and wind, and if she's not improving and you know she is not cold, take her to your vet for an exam. These tremors could be a simple thing such as mild irritation to the skin in that area, or something much more concerning such as petit seizures or a symptom of a toxicity. An exam with a vet would really be necessary to determine what's causing Udel's tremors. It's definitely a good sign that she's still active, and if she's acting pretty normal and eating well then you can likely monitor her for a day or two - but if this continues then I recommend scheduling an exam with your vet. If you can, I recommend trying to capture a little video of the tremors, just in case she doesn't do them at the vet's office, so they can see what you're noticing at home. If your vet is providing curbside care, you could e-mail the video for them to see. In the meantime, if Udel starts acting sick, lethargic, unsteady on her feet, or shows any other concerning signs of progressing symptoms, then an ER visit may be necessary today as I'd be worried about a possible toxicity. With your description, I would be concerned about a respiratory problem, hypothermia or systemic infection. The outdoor temperature is cold right now so if he was exposed to very cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time, he may be hypothermic. Shaking or trembling in your cat could indicate pain or discomfort. If the shaking is severe I would be worried about seizure like activity. I would recommend taking KitKat in to see your vet as something serious may be going on. Hopefully your vet can pinpoint the problem, with a physical exam and possibly blood work, and help to stop the shaking.

It sounds like Malena may be in distress. Since she cannot talk and tell you why this is happening, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian right away. It is always better to play it safe. I hope it’s nothing serious.

If Chuchay is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now.
