Why is my old cat skinny, drinking lots of water, and sneezing blood?

A common cause of weight loss in cats is hyperthyroidism. Your vet can run blood work to test his thyroid to determine if he has the condition. Other causes include infections, parasites, liver/kidney disease, endocrine diseases, cancer, etc. Schedule an appointment with your vet for to have a work-up.

Poor Garfield. At age 17 that is an awful lot going on and I'd be worried there is an underlying issue such as kidney or organ failure, disease, etc. Since he's so old and is having so many symptoms, it's best to bring him to your vet ASAP. They will likely want to run a few tests such as bloodwork or an X-ray to check his organ function, etc. If you can, bringing in urine or stool samples can also help with any testing and help streamline the process. Until you can get the vet, keeping him as comfortable as possible and keeping his eyes and nose clear with a clean washcloth can help. Some cats also do better eating if they can smell the food, so warming up his food or adding some boiled chicken that is smelly may encourage him to eat a little until you can be seen.

Based on what you are describing I would be concerned that something is going on with Cupcake. At her age I would be concerned about 3 diseases in particular: diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and kidney disease. All of these diseases can cause lethargy, anorexia, and weight loss. I would recommend taking Cupcake to the vet to be checked out. Your vet can run some simple lab work to determine if she has any of these diseases. These illnesses can also depress the immune system and lead to additional illnesses like upper respiratory tract infections that would explain the sneezing and watery eyes. Hopefully your vet can determine what is going on so you can start treatment and get Cupcake back to herself. Best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Jack. Coughing, sneezing and nasal discharge can be seen with upper respiratory infections, foreign material such as grass stuck in the nose or even cancer. Given his weight loss and upper respiratory signs, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. They will perform a thorough physical examination and may recommend blood work to get a better idea of what is going on.

I recommend taking Princess to a vet. As cats age they can develop multiple different systemic diseases which they can develop these symptoms. Taken individually, the symptoms wouldn't be too concerning, but with several things going on at the same time, I recommend getting him seen by your vet for an exam. Since he's been feeling a bit off since the move, it's even more important to get him checked to see what's going on. Also, as an older cat, he could be starting to have some kidney concerns which, if identified early can be managed at home with instruction by your vet.
